Goodlettsville is a small town located in Fayette County, Tennessee. Goodlettsville was founded in 1881 by John Goodlett and his family. The town was named after General James K. Polk, who died in 1884. Goodlett's father, also named John Goodlett, donated the land for the town. The first post office was established in 1881. The first schoolhouse was built in 1886. In 1925, the first municipal building was built. In 1928, the name of the town changed to Goodlettsville City and it has been an official city since then. There are currently four churches located in Goodlettville: First Baptist Church (founded 1865), United Methodist Church (founded 1903), Presbyterian Church (based on Dutch Reformedism), and Baptist/InterdenominationalChurch (founded 1966). There are also three businesses located in Goodlettville: Mrs Price seamstress shop (established 1888), J W Smith grocery store (based on early 1800s mercantile experience) and Mr Gannon’s hardware store(established 1912). As of 2007, there were over 100 residents living within goodlettsville limits

The name comes from General James Grant Goodlett who fought during the American Civil War. Goodlettsville was founded by his father-in-law, John Goodlett, in 1837. The original store was built on the current site of the Walmart Supercenter. The town grew around service businesses such as banks, expressway maintenance companies, and grocery stores. These businesses have all since closed or been replaced by newer ones. The only remaining service business is the post office which remains open Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm. There are no restaurants or bars in Goodlettsville, so residents must rely on their own food sources for sustenance. Some of the primary industries that have remained in Goodlettsville over time include printing and publishing, agriculture (especially raising chickens and pigs), plastics manufacturing, lumbering, plumbing and electronic equipment manufacturing
