Germantown is a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,746 at the 2010 census. Germantown is located on the Cumberland River and is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The land that now forms Germantown was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the early eighteenth century. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson purchased the land from these immigrants for $10 per acre. Jackson renamed Germantown "Jackson's Mill" after himself. By 1830, Jackson had built a sawmill and gristmill on the riverbank near what is now Interstate 65 and Elm Street. A school was soon built nearby to serve this growing community. In 1851, George Clements donated 320 acres (11 km2) of his farmstead east of downtown to form what would become Germantown Township. This township included much of present-day Germantown and surrounding areas including Mt Zion Cemetery and Maplewood Cemetery west of State Highway 412 (now I-65). The new township quickly became one of Tennessee's most populous with its large population growth during the mid 1800s due to cotton plantations being founded hereabouts by planters looking for safe harbor from slavecatchers during that period of history known as Reconstructionivism in America which began following the American Civil War (1861-1865). In 1870, when Memphis was created as an independent city Limits were added to develop into today’s Germantown with many homes still standing today such as Hickory Hall which can be seen from I-65 just north of Old Hickory Park shopping center across from FedExField NFL stadium

Germantown is a small town in the U.S. state of Tennessee that lies along the Cumberland River. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. Germantown was established in 1796 as a post office and has since been home to many notable people including August Montero, author of "The Great Gatsby" and former mayor of Memphis, Toni Morrison. The town is named for George Mason, who donated land for its creation. The first settler in what is now Germantown was John Sevier, who arrived in 1796. Sevier's family soon moved to what is now Germantown from an area just south of present-day Nashville. By 1800, there were seventeen homes in Germantown and it had a post office and store. In 1802, German immigrants arrive in Germantown and begin to work on construction of the steamboat docks on the Cumberland River near today's corner of Second Street and High Street - this also happened to be when water power began arriving in town for powering early mills such as those built by James Fenton (the father-in-law of August Montero). In 1814, George Washington Carver founded Carver County Agricultural Experiment Station #1 here in what is now GermantOWN with money he received from his purchase of five thousand acres (two thirds section) of land west of Nashville from Andrew Johnson – which would later become known as Carver County Courthouse Square – after being offered it by President Johnson during his visit to that county late that year. In 1819, another group led by Ebenezer Durham invested $5200 into dry goods store open at Third Street & High Street called Hargrave & Company before becoming known as Durham Elevated Railway Co., Incorporated on November 8th 1870 after purchasing thirty years worth of stock from Jno Wertheimer (founder/operator/director/director emeritus JW&E Railroad Company), John Seaton (manager/president), Ebenezer Durham Sr., Augustus Earle (founder), Samuel Sabinus (owner) & David Neely (operator). The company became partorized with other Erie Canal companies with business operations extending through much broader areas including Chattanooga eastward into Alabama; manufacturing supplies available throughout central Tennessee; transportation services within Cooke County; especially important during Reconstruction period when most business activities took place outside Memphis due to local restraints on transportation access imposed by military authorities implemented pursuant To martial law powers vested under Constitution article 1 Section 9 During World War II efforts were made to reopen line between Jacksonport northside Monroe County TN then Jacksonport docked at Fairgrounds across river below Bridge overriver

After the war ended, Germantown began to rebound slowly but steadily over ensuing decades – experiencing rapid growth once again by 1920.
