Germantown is a town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. Germantown is home to the Germantown Rifle and Pistol Club, which has been in operation since 1871. The club offers shooting ranges, pistols, shotguns and ammunition for purchase and rent.

The industry that Germantown relied on for its economy during the 1800s began to decline after the American Civil War, but it has since revived as a center for education and culture. However, this ordinance was repealed just two years later because of public outcry. During the 19th century, Germantown became known as a center for cotton production and commerce. A large part of the economy came from shipping crops to markets in Nashville and other cities. Unfortunately, this focus on agriculture led to environmental damage as well as negative social attitudes towards slaves and their descendants. This trend continued into the 20th century; however, it wasn’t until World War II that Germantown truly regained its heyday as an industrial city. At that time, production centered around munitions manufacturing and plastics research

After the war, many residents left for new suburbs in north Nashville or other areas outside of downtown Memphis. However, some residents remain in Germanton today and continue to play an important role in local life.
