In 1864, a group of men from Chattanooga started manufacturing their own gun hammers. This new company became known as the Chattanooga Hammer Company. The company added an additional hand crank arm to their production line so they could produce morehammer-style hammers than ever before. By 1888, the company had produced over 1,000hammer-type hammers! However, by 1900, the company had gone out of business due to technological advancements and changes in construction methods. Today, there are still some Hammers being manufactured by various companies who continue to produce these unique devices for hammered nails and other objects!

At that time it was one of only three American posts west of Mexico City. In 1814–15 Lt.(jg) John Ladd and 3rd US Infantryman Samuel Merrill explored into what is today called Cumberland Valley living off the wealth produced by Cherokee Nation land grants dating back to 1785 AD. They left behind evidence of habitation there including charred wood (now part of downtown GermANTOWN). A small farmers’ market still exists near where they discovered firewood near Babylon Rd., just north of Old Hickory Rd./Old Hickory Greenway/GermANTOWN STREET in downtown GermANTOWN today! A cotton gin began operations on April 6th, 1830 at Pleasant Grove Plantation directly across the street from where present day Park Heights stands today on State Route 321 just east of Interstate 55/Interstate 24 exit 164B southbound Exit #1 (and yes - I am correct - this still functions as an ATM machine!). Located adjacent to present day Academy Road/Adam Ct./Downtown GermANTOWN Shopping Center off Lamar Dr./Park Heights Ave.). This cotton gin manufactured more than 100tons per week! The first store opened up here in 1830 called "Pleasant Grove Market." It closed in 1841 but reopened under new management as "Cotton Mills & Wholesale Store" with Mrs Anna Goodloe Head serving as Manager until her death in 1861; later renamed First National Bank after its incorporation into First National Corporation (FNC) For many years this store served as HEADQUARTERS FOR THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF TENNESSEE JONESBURY COMPANY which merged into JP Morgan Chase & Co., LLC upon their acquisition by Citigroup Incorporated on November 15th 2007 . It currently houses several unique items unrelated to banking history such as an interactive Indian Chief headdress used during bank ceremonies . Eventually this building housed several large departments such as insurance and investments before finally being demolished following a fire on May 21st 2009 leaving most – if not all - original contents inside !
