Germantown, Tennessee was once a thriving community of around 100 people. The town was founded in 1819 by Colonel John Sevier and his wife, Martha. Sevier desired to establish a military post in the region, so he purchased land on the river bank and began construction on what would become Germantown. The first guns used in combat were handguns made of crude materials like oakum and willow bark. However, over time better firearms were created using more advanced techniques and materials. By 1830, handguns had finally become something that could be fielded in significant numbers by the militia forces of Germantown. However, due to its location at the heart of Nashville during the antebellum period it was not long before gun-makers started creating rifles as well. This led to some competition among rifle manufacturers but also helped spur innovation within firearm design itself. In 1841, Colonel Sevier established another nearby town named West Nashville as an attempt to compete with larger cities such as Nashville for manufacturing jobs and commerce. However, West Nashville failed to take off economically compared to Germantown which continued growing steadily until 1865 when it reached its peak population size of 330 people (and still does today). It changed its name to "Germantown" in 1863 when it became part of Davidson County. The first post office was established in Germantony on November 11, 1864. The current post office building was built in 1984 and replaced an earlier structure which had been lost during a fire two years earlier. The community has undergone several name changes throughout its history; including: "Hickory", "Cumberland Gap", "Morningside Heights", and finally "Germantown". In 1907, Members of Congress John Fenton and James Murchison recommended that newly created Davidson County rename itself as "Dickson County" after their home county of Dickson Scotland but no action was taken until 1952 when Covington Mayor Floyd Hines recommended that the same name be given to all Davidson Counties due to his disappointment withfailed efforts by then-Govt't to take any action towards rebranding for fear of loss of revenue from state owned colleges & universities). On July 15th 1913 residents voted 3/2 (with one abstention) against changing their name back to Hickory because they felt it would be confusing with neighboring townships named Hickory (Chattanooga & East Tennessee). On October 17th 1913 voters passed a resolution recommending that they never change their names again without Govt approval so long as they maintain democratic procedures through rotations among committees etc., this resolution remains unenacted today! It wasn’t until 1959 when Galesburg attorney Julius Kapp announced plans for what would become known as “Kapptown” adjacent to his law firm Galesburg & Company on Main Street just outside of downtown Galesburg – effectively becoming one single town with more than oneName! Upon further consultation Kapp decided against making Kapptown a separate municipality fearing duplication& possibly conflict between businesses within& outside of town limits resulting from multiple Name Changes occuring simultaneously which could create problems for both Municipalities if not managed well! In 1978 members voting 3/2 approved moving City Hall from downtown Galesburg into anonymous property line #229 next door to Alfred Hitchcock Elementary School (& remaining City Hall Building continues use as Law Office complex currently under construction @ www.galeburganewsgroup com) although some citizens feel taxpayer money should have been used towardnew building instead) In 2000 residents officially voted in support OF allowing incorporation into new city government together with legal counsels representing both municipalities although there has yetto be any real progress made either way! Future plans include relocating City Hall back inside city limits closer TO Downtown while continuing use as Law Office complex currently under construction.) As mentioned above some citizens have voiced concern about potential conflicts arising from multiple Name Changes occurring simultaneously & feeling like taxpayers' money may have been better spent elsewhere
