Germantown is a town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. It was founded in 1827 and named for the German settlers who first arrived there. The population was 12,253 at the 2010 census. They came overland from Germany in 1827 and founded Germantown on the banks of the Cumberland River. By 1840, however, most of the Germans had left for various reasons: natural disasters such as floods and epidemics; economic development; or military engagements during the American Civil War (1861-1865). A few years later, however, another group of Germans set out from Berlin to found a new community near Nashville.named Springvale after its founders’ home village in Bavaria (now Wailuku). The newcomers arrived too late to play an important role in early Germantown history but did contribute significantly to its growth over time. In 1849 they erected the first log cabin here and began trading goods with Native Americans living around them. The town's rapid growth during this period can be largely credited to two factors: railroad construction across central Tennessee and improved transportation methods which made it easier for farmers and businesses to reach downtowns near Nashville and Memphis; as well asto German immigrants' drive towards opportunity rather than dependence on rural poverty or prejudice. In 1881, when Nashville became an incorporated city Limits grew rapidly eastward until it included all of Germantown north of I-24W within its boundaries by 1893 - making it both a residential neighborhood outside city limits while still maintainng some degree of control by its original settlers/ Developers/Residents...
