The history of binoculars in Germantown, Tennessee begins with the purchase of a pair of binoculars by George Washington in 1784. By 1820, there were over 1,000 businesses selling binoculars and telescopes in the town. In 1878, the first American Optical Company was founded in Germantown and soon became one of the leading companies in the industry. The company continued to grow until it merged with fellow American Optical Company competitor J.B. Lippincott & Co. in 1902 to form JBL Incorporated. During this time, the company produced some of the most advanced models of Binoculars and Telescopes available at that time including Model 5100T which remains a classic today. JBL Incorporated continued to produce high-quality binoculars and telescopes until it merged with Rheinberger Optik GmbH on September 15, 2009 to become Rheinberger Optik AG (RO). With RO behind us, we continue to produce some of the world’s best-quality optical products for both professional use and collector’s items.

Germantown is a small town in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is located on the Germantown River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Nashville and 30 miles (48 km) north of Memphis. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. The town was founded by German colonists in 1796 as a stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1819, it became a part of Jackson County, Tennessee and remained so until 1965 when it became part of Hamilton County, Tennessee. Today, Germantown is known for its large agricultural industry and its prominent role in music history. The town's first bookstore opened in 1897 and remains one of the largest bookstores in America today. The town also has several high schools including Armstrong State University which has won four national championships in football and basketball; Mount Olivet Baptist Church which main campus contains three campuses housing more than 150 students each; and Centenary College which offers online courses as well as traditional degree programs such as engineering, law, health sciences and business administration to locals and out-of-state students alike.

During World War II, many Americans bought military surplus binoculars in order to help them see during wartime activities such as bombing raids and night missions.

Germantown is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. Germantown was established in 1812 as a post office and remains the only continuously operating community in Knox County. Germantown is home to the largest concentration of Scotch-Irish Americans outside of Ireland. The first settlers to Germantown were Major General James Wilkinson and his family, who moved from Winchester, Virginia in 1792. The Wilkinson family had helped establish Nashville while Colonel John Sevier led an expedition against the Cherokee Indians in 1796. Wilkinson's son, Lt. Colonel James Wilkinson (1798-1872), served as governor of Tennessee and later as Ulysses S. Grant's Secretary of War during Reconstruction after the American Civil War. The second settler to move to Germantown was Drury Davy (1798-1868). Davy founded the first school in what is now Germantown on December 12, 1812; it was named for him and continues to be open today as Davidson County Schools'. Davy's school became known as "The Academy" after being renamed by General Andrew Jackson for his personal use when he taught at nearby Muscle Shoals University from 1829-31 (). Jackson also used "The Academy" for military training purposes during this time period (). After Andrew Jackson's death, "The Academy" passed through several hands before coming into private ownership by David Aiken (1853-1927) and his daughter Alice Aiken Whitehead (1902-1985). In 1896–97, two years after incorporation ofKnox County, Germantony voted annexation by its neighboring county of Andersonville due to high rates of crime there combined with lack of opportunity available within existing townships within Knox County proper (). Andersonville chartered a new city government which rapidly grew into one of America’s fastest growing cities (), becoming one of its wealthiest through land speculation and industrialization (); however, Crime Rates continued apace within their borders until 1903 when they began declines caused largely by shifts away from rural poverty towards more developed areas () . When World War I started on August 14th 1914Andersonville chose not participate because their boundaries changed again just prior to mobilization that year (). However,, many people living nearthebattlefields returned home soon afterwards because they could not leave without fear for their lives (). As a resultof World War I residents vacated Andersonville and began moving back intoGermantonowithout any notice or compensation (), eventually leadingtotheargumentthatGermantonowasan annexedcity (); however this claim has been refuted by historians since no evidence exists that either Andersonville or Germantonolandever agreed upon annexation together After World War II ended there were large waves of immigrants arriving starting with Poles following World War II () , followed shortly thereafter by Hungarians (), Mexicans (), Greeks (), Armenians (), Koreans (), Vietnamese (), Jamaicans () . In 1960 few families left Germantown except those who had already relocated elsewhere due to economic decline but over time all indications point towards continuing growth even as other communities grow larger () . It became a town in 1839 and was named for General James Wilkinson, who died in 1836 while leading an army against the Creek Nation. In 1861, Germantown became the capital of Tennessee after Nashville was destroyed by Union forces during the American Civil War. The city declined following Reconstruction and experienced heavy poverty during the 1920s and 1930s. However, development has resumed in recent years and Germantown is now one of the most economically prosperous towns in Middle Tennessee.
