Gallatin is a town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davidson County. Gallatin was founded in 1802 and named for General Humphrey Gallatin, a hero of the Mexican–American War. The first white people to live here were Methodists from Kentucky who came in search of religious freedom during the 1830s. They erected a log cabin on what is now Second Street in 1832. In 1865, Judge George Washington Carrington moved his family from Lexington, Kentucky to this area and began to develop it as a boomtown withUF schools and businesses opening up along Second Street. By 1880, there were over 150 homes and businesses in downtown Gallatin with an estimated population of 2,500 people. In 1903, carpenter Jeptha Goode started building what would become known as Goode's Store on Main Street across from the courthouse where he later became manager. At that time the town had only two hotels: The Hotel Asheboro and The Hotel Vanderbilt which both closed by 1907 due to competition from more successful towns such as Nashville or Knoxville. In 1916 local businessman Rufus Sennett organized the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) with headquarters located in Chattanooga so that hydroelectric power could be developed here instead of being exported north to Canada or east to Ohio like much of Tennessee did at that time. As demand for electricity grew in easternTennessee throughout World War II many factories closed down but Gallatin continued to thrive with its own post office (1914-1975), banking system (1892-1994), general store (1892-1972), auto dealership(1915-present) and water tower (1920). In 1951 veteran General James Gavin became headmaster at UF Pembroke School after serving as superintendent of Knoxville schools for four years during President Harry Truman’s first term as president – one year before he left office for good because he believed education should be primary among all issues facing America when he took office After training students at UF Gresham School near Knoxville until they were ready for college they transferred back home under new Principal John Witherspoon who had been teaching high school math since 1938 while concurrently working on developing an elementary school just east of town called Witherspoon Elementary which opened its doors September 1st 1959 . Classes began there on October 3rd 1959 followed by Grades K-8 starting January 6th 1960 After years of growth under Principal Witherspoon assistant principalship current Principle Wayne Henson assumed duties February 1st 1970 when Witherspoon retired leaving behind a newly built Middle School facility adjacent to his former High School property also known as “The Farm” . Mr Henson has served as principle ever since . During prohibition many moonshine stills operated north of town selling whiskey made from corn mashings purchased directly from farmers south side TN marketplaces while distilled whiskey was produced locally using coal heated engines running off canal boats moored offshore making this one of most prolific Whiskey production areas westof Appalachia

Gallatin, Tennessee is a small town in the Middle Tennessee region of the United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Lincoln metropolitan area. The town was founded by brothers David and Solomon Gallatin in 1809 as a rendezvous forotin' minor Indian trails. In 1814, they patented an 8,000 acre (3 km²) tract of land around present day Gallatin that became their main commercial center. They also built up a herds of livestock and developed an agricultural economy with cotton plantations, corn mills, and tanning operations. During the 1830s, localquaity meetings were held to discuss regional issues such as joining the Union or seceding from it; these meetings helped create a sense of community among landowners in this area and contributed to its later success as a trade center. In 1835, David Gallatin donated 1/4 mile (0.6 km²) on what is now East Main Street to become Caldwell Hall which served as both a schoolhouse and courthouse until it burned down in 1904. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Easley attacked Fort Donelson while moving supplies into Chattanooga during the Civil War; after being repulsed by Union forces under General Ulysses S Grant, he retreated back intogallatin without any casualties After the war ended in 1865, many veterans returned home and established businesses such as grocery stores and carriages workshops before disappearing from history until 1950 when they were rediscovered by students at Vanderbilt University's School of History who published an article about them entitled "The Returnees: A Contrastive Study." At that time there was no organizedGallatin historical society so preservation efforts began spearheaded by members of this group over several years culminating with plans for restoration funding coming through state government grant programs in 1978-79 which eventually led to full reestablishment of the town's historic district including renovation of Caldwell Hall which reopened to visitors on October 15th 2009!
Gallatin was founded in 1796 by John Sevier. The town became a post office in 1827 and a state capital in 1868. It is the seat of Gallatin County, Tennessee.
