The first store opened in 1827 and Dry Goods Emporium (now known as Dick's Sporting Goods) followed in 1830. By 1840 there were six stores with a combined inventory of over 2 million pounds of goods! Milk production began around this time and soon enough there were four creameries producing quality milk for local consumption and export. Cheese production also took off during this time with three large Creamery Brothers running two factories each making both block cheese (brie cheese) and gouda cheese while also selling common farm items like eggs, applesauce, molasses etc.. However by 1865 all five businesses had closed due to competition from interstate trade routes that bypassed the area altogether during that period of industrial growth across the South - including Georgia & Tennessee Railroad construction just upstream which caused wholesale prices for commodities such as milk to quadruple overnight! Not surprisingly many farmers lost their businesses when railroads came through!

Gallatin, Tennessee is a small town located in Hardin County, Tennessee. The population was 5,816 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The Gallatin community was founded by Revolutionary War veterans in 1794. The community was named for Colonel James Wilkinson Gallatin, who had been wounded at Saratoga and then served in the Continental Army as a brigadier general during the Revolutionary War. In 1796, Wilkinson purchased 640 acres (2 km2) of land east of present-day Gallatin from John Sevier and his son George Sevier. He built a log cabin on the property and named it after himself. In 1802, he married Sarah Parkman and moved to the property with her. They raised three children: James Wilkinson Gallatin (1807-1892), Sarah Jane Parkman Galvin (1809-1886), and John Sevier Parker (1811-1900). In 1825, Wilkinson passed away and his wife inherited his land and holdings in Hardin County along with other properties including 4 miles (6 km) of logging road leading to their home that she continued to operate until her death in 1865. His widow sold most of these assets to General Nathan Bedford Forrest Jr., who became one of the largest landowners in East Tennessee during Reconstruction following the American Civil War. The Forrest family used some of this land for grazing purposes before selling it off to various citizens through deeds or contracts over time. Despite its remote location compared to more populated areas within East Tennessee during Reconstruction, Gallatin experienced significant growth due to its proximity to Nashville and its role as a transportation hub for goods moving between those two cities as well as farmland around nearby rural communities such as White Oak Creek Valley near Lebanon Pike/Highway 191 and Spring Hill Road near State Route 387B Spur originally built by Donelson & Lamar Coal Company prospectors in 1902 which later became Cumberland Farms subdivision owned by Jethro Tull Incorporated located just north of Highway 191 approximately 10 minutes westbound on Interstate 35W from I-35W exit 116 Southgallippi Rd just south of Highway 191 about 25 minutes eastbound on I-35W exit 116 North
