On April 12th, after a series of skirmishes near Glasgowtown Gap on the Cumberland River, Wilkinson ordered his troops into battle against Robertson’s force at Richlands Creek outside present-day Knoxville. After three days of fighting, Wilkinson withdrew his forces due to lack of food and ammunition; Robertson followed suit a few days later and surrendered unconditionally.) Following the Battle ofRichlands Creek (April 12th), Davidson County was indirectly granted statehood as part of the Compromise Of1820 which guaranteed slavery but allowed slaveholders within state boundaries to keep their slaves free under certain conditions.–This action set off years of civil strife between white Southerners and northern abolitionists). In 1824 Congressman James Kenedy introduced a bill proposing that all citizens be given citizenship regardless of race.–At this point many whites decided they did not want slaves living among them so they formed militias called “Ku Klux Klan” which terrorized African Americans throughout muchouthern America). A group including John C Williamson (a former slave) purchased land west of town from Malcolm Raymer in 1830 – Williamson renamed it Pleasant Hill after himself – angling for colonization because he felt European immigrants were taking away jobs from native Tennesseans.. He also hoped to find new investors for his plantation business.) When Andrew Johnson ran for president in 1860 against John F Kennedy there was intense competition for voter support especially among rural areas where proslavery sentiment remained high even though cotton plantations had become increasingly mechanized .) railway construction started finally bringing wealth into central Tennessee making Gallatin more attractive than it ever had been before .) To maintain dominance over its southern neighbor during this period Tennessee passed an act approving annexation into Unionist America ) This event solidified gallatin's status as an important trade center .) Today remnants still exist such as Pleasant Hill Plantation
