Franklin, Tennessee is known for itsgun targets. The first gun target in Franklin was erected by the founder of the city, James Robertson, in 1812. It was a tower made of large logs and had a musketball shot through it. At first, gun targets were used only to defend against Indian attack; however, since they were so popular among locals and visitors alike, they soon became an nuisance to shooters and hunters. In 1836, the state legislature passed a law that required all gun stores in Tennessee to sell targets of every kind; this provided an incentive for local manufacturers to create new varieties of targets that could be taken apart and rearranged for different purposes. By 1850, there were more than 100 target businesses in Franklin. Today, even though gunslingers no longer use Franklin as their shooting destination (due to advances in technology), the city remains home to one of Tennessee's largest concentrations oftarget enthusiasts.

After World War II, many of the original Scottish-Irish residents moved away while others did not survive the economic depression that followed; their descendants are still present in small numbers today. In 1957, four families started a farmstead brewery called "Flaming Lips" on land they had acquired near what is now downtown Franklin. This enterprise led to growth for both the business and the town as it became an important source of income for local businesses and individuals alike - along with creating jobs for locals during hard times. In 2002, "Flaming Lips" closed its doors after more than 60 years in business; however, its legacy continues to be felt throughout downtown Franklin through various programs and events associated with it such as Folk Days (a celebration of traditional Scottish music) and Oktoberfest (the largest German beer festival in America). In recent years, efforts have been made to revive interest in this defunct business by hosting annual festivals featuring locally made food products from various farmers markets across town as well as live music performances from local bands throughout October/November each year. Today, much like then-townspeople Johnnie Sutherlin and his family whoowned Fidelity Farms Market where produce was sold year-round until 1978 when advanceorders stopped coming out of store because there wasn't enough demand for fresh produce due to suburban development around them), so too are many of today's venerable businessesowners located within easy walking distance or minutes' drive home due to advances technological advancements including online ordering capabilities which make grocery shopping almost effortless these days! Soaring suburbia notwithstanding...much remains unchanged about life hereabouts over 66 years ago!

This neglect is largely due to its small size relative to both Nashville’s population density and Knoxville’s economic power; both cities have greater populations that can support more comprehensive history museums than Franklin could hope to muster even within their limits. Despite these limitations, some excellent efforts are underway to improve Franklin’s status as a historic community deserving closer attention from historians and tourists alike. For example, the city has recently undergone a $5 million restoration project which includes restauration of several historic buildings dating back to the 1800s; this effort represents a unique opportunity for visitors to experience firsthand how life functioned within one of Tennessee’s preeminent commercial centers during much earlier times than they would otherwise be able to do so. Furthermore, plans are currently underway for another large restoration project which will include renovation of several key public buildings dating backtothe 19th century; this effort should provide valuable insights into how Nashville developed over that time period while also providing opportunities for visitor exploration inside some truly iconic structures located within easy walking distance of each other!
