Franklin, Tennessee is home to the world's second-largest military installation after Fort Bragg in North Carolina. The city was originally founded by planters in 1796 as a small town on the banks of the Maumee River. By 1815, Franklin had become one of the largest and most important cotton plantations in America. After being acquired by the United States government in 1821, Franklin grew rapidly as a military post and eventually became one of the most important weapons manufacturers in America. The city also played an important role during the American Civil War, providing munitions for both sides and helping to expand US forces into new territory. In 1865, following Union victories at Gettysburg and Vicksburg, Franklin was returned to US control and became part of Jackson County, Mississippi. However, it continued to be an important center for arms manufacturing until 1971 when it closed its doors for good.
Franklin is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area and is the county seat of Williamson County. The first settler in Franklin was James Smith in 1827. The town site was chosen due to its location on the Cumberland River and its easy access to transportation. A post office was established in 1831, and by 1835 it had outgrown its original location on a bluff overlooking the river. Franklin began to grow rapidly as a result of its strategic location near two main railroads and several other markets. In 1870, a schoolhouse and chapel were built in what is now downtown Franklin; this became home to Franklin's first library in 1872. In 1886, coal mining commenced operation in nearby Williamson County; as a result, much of the development that followed came about during this time period for Franklin residents who worked in the mines. By 1910, with peak coal production completed, Franklin's population had reached 2,048 people. At that point it became an agricultural center with farmlands stretching across three miles (4 km). Today most of these farms remain within city limits but some have been sold or moved outside of city boundaries altogether since then; one such example is Buttermilk Hill which has been located outside of Nashville since 2000! Today many aspects associated with Franklin are unchanged from when it first emerged as an agricultural center: early pioneers taught their children how to cultivate crops and raise livestock; today's families continue this tradition through family owned businesses; there are also numerous nature trails located throughout town which provide opportunities for exploration and learning about local ecology

Franklin, Tennessee is a city in Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 20,507 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The Franklin community was founded by George Washington's father-in-law and his wife Martha Washington on November 5, 1796. The town was named after General James Wilkinson (1740–1814), who served as a brigadier general in the Continental Army and then as a delegate to the Federal Convention that drafted the Constitution of United States in 1787. In 1802, Wilkinson donated land for a courthouse and school district which became known as Franklin Township. The first schoolteacher in what is now Franklin Township was Mrs. Hanks from 1812 to 1816. In 1880, when Chattanooga became an incorporated city, Franklin had 1 post office and 11 residents; it had 4 businesses including 4 stores and 2 restaurants when incorporation occurred. By 1900 it had 9 businesses with over 100 residents; it also boasted 3 churches (2Methodist & 1 Baptist) and 2 schools (one high school and one academy). By 1920 there were 24 businesses with 240 residents; it also sported 7 churches (6 Methodist & 1 Baptist) along with two public libraries: one opened in 1915 and anotheropened in 1922/23 under charter from the Knoxville Library System which merged into the Chattanooga Public Library system in 1975. Businesses included 10 stores alone by 1930 while only 8 remained by 2000; all but one closed within 20 years of incorporation or before their date of closure due todeclining sales or competition from digital downloads etc.; three out of four schools closed between 1925-1975 were vacated during this time period while two others remain open today as branch libraries serving portions of rural resigned areas outside of downtown Chattanooga limit attendance to selective students seeking free access for adults only….. In 1980 most citizenswere African American…. Today about 60%of total population are white although minorities make up more than 30%…. According to recent census data less than half (.45%)of population resident since 2010 has Full UPI Social Security Numbers….. A number of downtown buildings have been torn down either through demolition or conversion into housing units……Today much Franklins infrastructure has been replaced thru demolitions including water lines supplying homes (& businesses), roads maint., electric wiring etc., including new sidewalks & streetlights
Franklin was founded in 1796 by James Robertson and additional settlers. The first post office was established in 1807, and the town became a village in 1832. Franklin has been the focal point of the city of Knoxville since its establishment in 1853.
