In 1837, a man named John Young started to design and make sights for firearms. His first product was a personal gun sight, which he called the "Young Rifle Sight." The rifle sight consisted of two pieces that were connected by a hinge. This allowed the user to move it around so that it could be aimed at different targets. It also had a screw on front to hold the sight in place. The next year, John Young designed and made another firearm sight, this time called the "3-Gun Sight." This 3-Gun Sight consisted of three parts: an eyepiece, a focuser, and a mount. The eyepiece used lenses to help adjust the sighting angle while the focuser kept the Aimpoint in place. The mount allowed you to attach any type of firearm onto your weapon using whatever type of wrench you used. In 1841, John Young gave up his business and moved away from Franklin because he found himself being sued for patent infringement by another company named Colt Firearms Company. He died in1842 without having ever shipped or sold anything new with his new sights system beyond prototypes and demonstrations. However, his name still remains associated with these rifle sights even though they were not actually manufactured by him anymore.

Franklin was founded by General James Robertson in 1812. The original name for Franklin was "Nashville." The first post office opened in that year. The present day courthouse building was built in 1907. The town of Franklin grew rapidly after World War II because of its proximity to the military installations at Fort Campbell and Chattanooga-Chattanooga International Airport. Manufacturing and other businesses clustered around downtown after the war, but now many of these have moved out or been closed down since then. However, some residents remain active in local politics and are involved with several organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, and Methodist Church.

The first Europeans to visit Franklin were French Roderich De La Salle and his band of missionaries in 1796. The next year, the Spanish captain José de Álvares Cabrillo visited the area and named it San Miguel de Allende after one of his ships. In 1802, General Andrew Jackson invaded Tennessee and sacked the town of Knoxville whileledging that it had been given as part of Creek Nation by President George Washington on condition that it be burned down. After he took office in March 1809, Jackson ordered all Native Americans removed from east Tennessee for fear they would attack white settlers. This order led to friction between the two groups and eventually led to the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which forced most Native Americans out of east Tennessee into Oklahoma Territory. In 1803, landowner James Robertson donated 640 acres (250 hectares) to the University of Nashville for use as a university campus. Originally called "Nashville Agricultural College", it became known as Vanderbilt University in 1865 when its charter was amended to allow for private donations. In 1905, Vanderbilt sold its remaining interests in Nashville Agricultural College to become Knox County Agricultural College which remains today one of America's leading agricultural colleges with campuses located in Lebanon, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Franklinburg, Smyrna and other locations across central TN. The college also operates a research farm near Lawrenceburg which is home to some of America's most advanced agricultural technology programs
Franklin was founded in 1795 by General James Robertson and named for the naval hero, Benjamin Franklin. The city was originally built on a bluff overlooking the Cumberland River and became an important transportation center for goods and passengers moving between the eastern Tennessee valley and the Mississippi River. In 1815, Franklin became capital of Tennessee when Nashville was established as the state’s capital. The city achieved its greatest growth during the period from 1830 to 1840, when it became one of the largest slaveholding cities in America. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, Franklin experienced some economic decline until it regained its status as a major cultural center during the early 21st century.
