Franklin, Tennessee is a town in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,661 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The townsite was laid out by John Sevier in 1799 and named after his father-in-law, James Robertson. The first gun light display in Franklin took place on October 25th 1892. At that time it was the onlygun light show in America and the first such event to be held outside of European countries. Thegun light show originally consisted of twelve small electric lights situated around a large map of central Franklin showing off every winery and farmstead within two miles radius of where each light shone. Visitors could purchase tickets for $1 which allowed them access to view all twelve lights at once from any position within the park boundaries

In 1892-1893, a steamboat called "Pioneer" made history when she arrived at anchor off shore near present day Marine Park beach during a stormy day while tourists were enjoying their morning walk alongshore; this event helped solidify tourism as one of Polk County's primary sources of revenue for years to come In 1907-1908, construction began on what is now Interstate 245 which linked Knoxville with Memphis across I-24; this project helped spur economic growth and change within both cities over time In 1925–1926, work began on what is now Municipal Airport – one of Knoxville’s earliest aviation capabilities – which would later become home to such iconic institutions as FedEx Ground and Pigeon Forge Airpark
