The first post office in Farragut opened on October 9, 1839; it closed on May 7, 1840. The first store in Farragut was located at what is now the corner of Main and John streets. In 1868, an addition to the town center was built near what is now Court Square; this building still stands today and is used as a community center. In 1870, Farragut had a schoolhouse and one whitesmith shop while black people only had one grocery store until that year when they added another store next door which served both races until 1904 when it closed because of lack of customers or money being available for renovations/upkeep/new construction..... Today there are few physical reminders of where Farragut once stood but its residents have left their mark on the community through their stories and memories that continue to live long after they left......
