In 1827, Nicholas-Jacques Conte designed and patented the first practical optical instrument, a pair of spectacles. The instrument was called an optometer and it consisted of two lenses that were focused together by a small prism. By comparing the images produced by these lenses, one could see what objects were in focus and which ones were not. This invention allowed people to see things that they could not previously see with their naked eyes. In 1836, John Herschel developed a better design for an optometer and named it the telescope because it could be used to observe the stars at night. In 1840, he also developed a way to use light waves to measure distances between objects. His discovery is known as the Herschel Method. In 1846, Jules Lacaille created another practical optical instrument called the monochrome camera. This device used photosensitive paper rather than glass or metal plates to create pictures; each photo was then processed using different chemicals to create a range of colors from black-and-white all the way up to color photographs. With this new technology, people could take pictures of things that would otherwise be impossible to capture in words or sketches! In 1870, Augustus Mlynar invented an improved type of monochrome camera which became known as an enlarger lens! It allowed users to enlarge photos quite easily without having to cut them into individual pieces like previous cameras did. This technology allowed photographers and artists aliketo create stunningly detailed artwork without ever having any physical space available! In 1925, Konrad Zuse created the world’s first electronic digital camera system! This innovative device allowed users To take digital pictures and store them on personal computers! Farragut was a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee, in the early 1800s. It was located on the Cumberland River and had a population of about 125 people at the time of its incorporation into the United States in 1819. Farragut became an important port on the river and prospered because of its shipping and fishing businesses. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1871, but it regained some importance after it was founded as a community by Irish immigrants in 1872. The community grew rapidly and became known for its housing developments, shopping centers, schools, and hospitals. In 1991, Farragut joined the city of Memphis as part of a larger metropolitan area that included that city and nearby towns such as Germantown and Union Station.
The city of Farragut, Tennessee was founded in 1839 by General James K. Polk and his brother, Andrew J. Polk. The City of Farragut was named for Admiral David Dixon Porter, who fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as U.S. Minister to Spain. The city's first mayor was John Hatton and its first school superintendent was Amos P. Kendall. In 1865, the United States Military Academy at West Point moved to Farragut from New York City and the city annexed parts of Knoxville Township which had been part of that town since 1831. In 1872, the Union Pacific Railroad opened a line through Farragut linking it with Louisville, Kentucky and Omaha, Nebraska creating what is now known as the " Midwest Corridor." In 1915, Farragut became a consolidated municipality with Knoxville when those two cities merged under one common government authority called the "City Council". In 1970, Knoxville annexeed portions of Farragut again making it a second city once again within the boundaries of present day Farragut TN
