When the first firearms were invented in America, they were often designed to shoot cartridges that could be reloaded. The first American guns were fired by firing a number of rounds from a single stock. This early rifle was called an Old World Musket and it had a four-round magazine and was used by Native Americans. In 1795, Captain John Farragut helped develop the navy's first ship-fired cannon and his design became known as the Farragut gun. The Farragut gun is still in use today on warships around the world. In 1841, Kentucky Rifleman Daniel Boone developed a new type of rifle known as the Bowie knife rifle which fired short cartridges instead of round balls. This weapon was very successful and soon became popular among frontier militias across America. In 1849, Captain Stephen Henshaw built what is considered to be the world's first self-loading shotgun, which he called "The Boston Tea Party Gun." Henshaw's shotgun was used to help suppress Rebel forces during the American Revolution. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell commissioned Smith & Wesson Firearms Company to make him a new type of revolver which he named the revolver musketeer. Many different types of firearms have been developed over time for use in warfare including handguns ( pistols ), rifles ( shotguns ), machine guns ( automatic weapons ), aircraft cannons ( cannon ) and even bows!

In 1903, however, Gottlieb & Co., manufacturers of automatic firearms introduced what is considered today's most popular manual trigger system – gas operated pistols and shotguns (liksons). This device employed two small Stephenson cocking rods located just behind each barrel block (similar in function to modern hammer/fire control systems). By depressing these rods once per cycle, shooters could manually cock their handguns by means of a thumb crank or rod handle

Farragut was once a thriving town in the heart of Tennessee. It has been lost to time, but its rich history can be found in its surroundings. Farragut is located in what is now Knox County, about 20 miles west of Nashville. The community was founded by General Andrew Jackson on December 12, 1796 as a post office and trading center for the area. It gradually grew into a small town with a population of around 350 people by 1800. The town was destroyed by fire on May 10, 1810 and never rebuilt. However, it continued to exist as an unincorporated community until it was annexed by Nashville in 1870. In that year, Farragut passed from private hands to become the first city in Tennesseeitizenship under statehood. In 1865, Farragut became the home of Confederate General Jubal Early during his march through Tennessee to join General Robert ELee at Appomattox Court House. Early's headquarters were here until he surrendered at Goodwood Heights on April 9, 1865. After his surrender, Early was prisoner at Fort Pulaski until he was exchanged on May 2, 1865 and returned to Nashville where he finally ended his days as a free man at Cumberland Island Prison before dying two years later at age 56. Today much of what used to be known about Farragut is unknown due to development over the last century or so within nearby cities and towns such as Lebanon and Murfreesboro which have taken away much of the original infrastructure andhistoric character of this small village situated near the banks of the Cumberland River
Farragut, Tennessee history began with the arrival of General James K. Polk on October 10, 1845. Polk was traveling through the area and decided to stop at Farragut for a night rest. He ordered his army to march the following morning and arrived at the town on October 12th. The townspeople were very pleased to have a general visiting and welcomed him with open arms. After resting for a few days, Polk's army moved south towards Chattanooga in order to take part in the Battle of Chattanooga on November 4th. The battle ended in a victory for the Union side, allowing them to drive out the Confederates from their stronghold. A few weeks later, on November 8th, General John Cæsar Fremont arrived at Farragut with an army seeking revenge against ConfederateGeneral Robert Ewell for what he saw as excessive losses suffered during the Battle of Chickamauga. In order for Fremont to take action against Ewell, he first had to secure control of Chattanooga. After besieging the city for several weeks, Fremont finally relieved it on December 2nd after inflicting many casualties upon Ewell's forces. From then until 1865, Farragut remained under Union control until it was surrendered by General Nathan Bedford Forrest on February 17th of that year
