The town was founded by General Andrew Jackson and named after Farragut Lake in northern Robertson County. It was established on the property of James Kapp and post office began operation on November 12, 1819. In 1827 the town became one of two towns in Robertson County to be chartered as districts; the other being Cockrellville. On January 1, 1930, Farragut incorporated as a city. In 1968-69 there were several shootings in and around Farragut that led to the founding of the local organization called "Black Lives Matter".
Farragut was a town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by August Farragut and his family in 1826. He had come to Williamson County from Georgia to purchase land that he believed would be a promising site for an Agricultural Experiment Station. He named the town after himself and his father-in-law, Commodore John Wainwright of HMS "Nancy" fame. In 1827, the first post office opened in Farragut with four mail sacks full of mail from eastern Tennessee arriv ing on board USS " Constitution". Farragut's early years were difficult as he tried to overcome a lack of resources and competition from other towns in the area. However, he did not give up and soon became one ofthe most successful businessmen in the county. His success led him to invest in many businesses including cotton plantations, banking institutions, lumberyards and shipping ports. In 1865, Farragut helped found what is now known as The Chattahoochee River Watershed Coalition which aimed to protect water supplies for local communities throughout Chattanooga metropolitan area

Farragut, Tennessee was founded by Nicholas Farragut in 1796. The town became a center for cotton production and trade. In the 1830s, it was renamed Nashville after President James K. Polk.
