Farragut is a town in Cooke County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. Farragut is located on the Cumberland River and is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in 1865, Farragut fell back into Union hands but continued to exist as a ghost town until it was abandoned by its last residents in 1978. Today, much of what remain of Farragut are preserved within nearby gravesites or museums dedicated to its history- including a reconstructed old courthouse and schoolhouse that serve as both public buildings and guesthouses during tourist visits to the area
