Farragut, Tennessee is a city located in the eastern Panhandle of TN. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. Firearms were an important part of the town’s economy and its history. The first firearms in Farragut were pistols made by local blacksmiths. This type of firearm was known as a “hattie” because it had a brim that covered the muzzle to protect against rain or snow exposure. One of the earliest firearms manufactured in Farragut was a revolver built by John Broughton in 1805. This weapon was used to shoot game near the town’s courthouse. It is interesting to note that this revolver is one of only two types still extant from early 19th century America and it is also one of only two pistols ever manufactured with revolving cylinders (the other being some small caliber carbines). The first rifle factory in Farragut was built by Sam Bassett around 1820. His factory produced rifles for both internal use andexport markets. His weaponry includes artillery pieces such as cannons, mortars, and small arms. He also exported rifles to Mexico and Spain among others during this time period. The industry around firearms began to decline after the American Civil War ended in 1865 due to lack of demand from war-weary Americans. However, new gun companies continued to be founded throughout Reconstruction era until about 1890 when shotguns became more popular than handguns for defense purposes following passage of fiveteenth amendment prohibiting slavery within USA

It had a depot on the Cumberland Railroad from 1865 until its closure in 1971. In 1925, Farragut became one of fourteen towns consolidated into the new city of Nashville. The old post office building remains standing as evidence of its once important role in local life and culture. Today, Farragut is an agricultural community with a large dairy operation and several thousand acres of cornfields and other crops. It also has two churches: First Baptist Church which was built in 1916 and moves annually to different locations aroundTennessee; and Second Presbyterian Church which was built in 1915 but has not moved since 2007 because it is too dangerous to move an entire congregation

The town quickly grew due to its great shipping capabilities and its location on the Tennessee River. By 1836, Farragut had a population of 1,500 people. In 1840, Farragut became a county seat with the incorporation of nearby Decatur County. In 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant located Fort Donelson within sight of Farragut after his victory at Gettysburg. However, Union General William Tecumseh Sherman destroyed Fort Donelson in December 1865 while besieging Chattanooga. This ended any hope that Confederate forces might attempt to retake Farragut or Decatur County from Union control. The town experienced significant economic revival during World War II as war production increased around the world. The GI Bill helped create new jobs throughout Tennessee and gavemany Tennesseans their first opportunities to own homes and businesses outside of their home state or city limits since before Reconstruction times. After World War II ended, many residents chose to move away from Nashville or stay but some kept their homes until recently when they were sold again through foreclosure proceedings following the Great Recession most notably in Farragut itself where prices have continued to decline significantly over recent years despite efforts by developers who hope to revive interest in this once vibrant community
