Despite Katrina's passage through without causing major damage or loss of life, many residents remain fearful about potential future disasters due to climate change. Since 2000, Farragut has been working with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for Habitat For Humanity International clients who have lost their homes in natural disasters such as hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Over time, Farragut has developed into a small community with a diverse culture that includes Italian Americans, African Americans, Creek Indians, Scythians (a Turkic people), Scots-Irish immigrants, Baptists and Lutherans among other groups. The community is home to three churches - St. Alphonsus Catholic Church (founded in 1898), First Baptist Church (founded in 1906) and Mount Zion Protestant church (founded in 1909). Additionally, there is an active local chamber of commerce which helps support local businesses and events such as annual carnivals and summer concerts. Farragut is also known for its distinctive architecture - many buildings were designed by Scottish architect John Nash who also created some of Nashville's famous landmarks such as Vanderbilt University's main building and Bridgestone Arena. Many streets are named after historical figures such as General James K. Polk or Admiral David Dixon Porter - one example is "Avery" Street honoring Admiral Porter.)
