Elizabethton is a small town in central Tennessee, located about 30 miles northeast of Memphis. The population was 2,361 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hancock County and the home of Elizabethton Community College. The town was founded in 1819 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest as Fort Elizabethton on the edge of a tract granted to him by James Legree. In 1825, Forrest renamed it to Elizabethton after his wife, Elizabeth Bedloe (1792-1864). In 1868, when Andrew Johnson became president, he ordered all Federal lands east of the Mississippi River be sold to private individuals for settlement. As a result, many farmers in central TN left for new opportunities in Indiana and Ohio. One group of these farmers decided to move into what is nowElizabethton and began construction on a community called Pioneer Hill. The first residents arrived in late 1870 or early 1871 and set up their homes around a large square fire ring that they had built from logs found near their farmsteads. Pioneer Hill quickly became an important center for trade and culture due to its location close to both Memphis and Nashville. Many prominent people from these cities visited the small town during this time including attorney John Aitken (1798-1875), musician Jesse Jenkins (b. 1830), lawyer John Fenton Phelps (1812-84), doctor Samuel Sloan (1814-94) and author Andrew Johnson Richardson (1800-72). Many businesses were started here during this time such as Grits Mfg., J & W Clothing Co., Lumber Yard & Warehouse Co., Boott's grocery store, Mrs Guthrie's bakery and post office which were all operated until 1959 when they were combined into one building known today as Old Post Office Park
At the turn of the 21st century, there were still a lot of people who believed that weapons were the only way to protect oneself from harm. One such inventor was George Westinghouse, who created a device called the "Westinghouse Flashlight." This device used electricity rather than flame or sparks to shoot out a beam of light at its target. It worked well enough for early experiments, but didn't become popular until later on when it began being marketed as a weapon flashlight.

Elizabethton is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1819 by Captain John Elizabeth and his wife Judith. In 1861, it participated in the American Civil War as a part of the Confederate States of Tennessee. It surrendered on April 9, 1865, to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. The first settler in Elizabethton was Captains John Elizabeth and Judith Elizabeth who were married October 25th 1799 at Morehead Place near Knoxville[1]. They came from Weymouthport (now Falmouth) MA and were passengers on the " Enterprise" with 129 other people which sailed out of Portsmouth England on January 16th 1800[2]. From this date forward until the end of the war there were no more arrivals or departures from English ports however during this time many families lived & labored within 6 miles of each other without any fear of enemy attack or Capture – something unheard of before then! The land they started with was donated by Archibald McMillin who also resided in that area at that time[3]. Soon after they arrived some children began to be born and soon enough a store had been built on Main Street( present day Gooding Avenue). This store served as both their home & job for many years before it burned down in 1868. At this point Captains John Elizabeth and JudithElizabeth decided to move back to America where they would start anew but their kids continued living with them until shortly before Captains death in 1840 when all six children under 10 years old moved back with them[4] . AfterCaptains death two wives took over running the stores while one wife stayed behind to raise her six children which she did successfully for over 80 years! It should be noted that even though now most residents live elsewhere within 30 miles due to retirement/job changes etc., few have left since those days!] Today much has changed since 1861 including KY’s native Mount Washington statehood referendum result being certified as such by our Supreme Court last year allowing us all sorts of advantages not enjoyed by either side for many decades! Our soon-to-be sister state provides benefits like free healthcare just for Tennesseans regardless if you are rich or poor etc., so what ends here may very well begin there! In addition to its namesake river (the Elizabeth River), Elizabethton is located near Coal Mountain National Park providing hiking opportunities as well as views unparalleled anywhere else outside TN! Its citizens enjoy excellent restaurants such as Capital Grille & Grill 2nd generationowned by current Mayor Donny Ladd; Interstate 45 Business owner Brenton Bassett opened his second location just south east of town late last year giving locals plenty shopping options unavailable anywhere else nearby; Mill Creek Breweryopened up shop adjacent to Town Hall last fall making craft beer available right hereabouts while vacationers can come enjoy ice cream cones from local Scooby Doo spot Scrooge McDuckie’s Eatery right across I-45 !!! Just about every business has something going for it these days including several schools & churches too numerous (&OBVIOUS)to mention here! What an amazing community we have created together over these past 158 years!!!
