The first gun target in Elizabethton was a blacksmith shop, built in 1816. In 1847, the town had two rifle ranges and one pistol range. In 1889, the town started to build shotguns and handguns. The first handgun target was built in 1897. In 1904, the town had three rifle ranges and one pistol range. In 1916, Elizabethton had its own police department and it began building bombers for World War I. From 1923 to 1925, Elizabethton also built an air-raid shelter.
Elizabethton is a small town located in West Tennessee. The population was 1,925 at the 2010 census. Elizabethton is the county seat of Knox County. It has a large agricultural sector with crops such as corn, soybeans, cotton, and hay. Elizabethton is also home to the East Tennessee Regional Airport which provides air service to nearby cities and towns. The main businesses in Elizabethton are those that deal with agriculture or other related industries. There are also several small businesses that provide services such as home health care and car repair. The history of Elizabethton dates back to 1817 when David Dixon founded the town on land he purchased from the Cherokee Nation. Dixon named his new town after his wife, Eliza Jane Thomson, who had been born in Scotland in 1786-87. In 1834, John Witherspoon became the first postmaster of Elizabethton after taking office from General Asahel Greggs. A year later, Witherspoon opened up a general store and built a three-story frame house on Second Street for his business premises. In 1835-36, Witherspoon donated land on Third Street for a schoolhouse which was designed by architect James McMillan Jr.. The school was built within one year and used until 1840 when it was replaced by a more recent structure which still stands today on Fourth Street near Mainstreet (now Elm). In 1840-41, James Bledsoe replaced Witherspoon as postmaster; he served until 1862 when he resigned because of ill health. He was succeeded by Henson Easley who served until 1865 when he resigned due to illness also followed by John Treadwell who served until 1870 when he too retired because of ill health; both men were succeeded by their assistants Charles Fenton and Alfred Shepard III respectively who continued serving until 1881 when they all died suddenly before making any further contributions to the community. During this time period there were only two stores open in Elizabethton: one operated by Fenton & Shepard and one run by Treadwell & Shepard which closed its doors around 1875 due to financial difficulties caused largely by increased competition from surrounding communities during an era where transportation was becoming more sophisticated than it had been before thanks to advances in railroad technology brought about primarily through railroads like the Erie Canal . Aftermath of American Civil War: In 1861 following America's civil war (1861 - 1865), many people fled Confederate states looking for refuge outside of America; these refugees constructed refugee camps along Iuka River just north of present day Elizabethton providing supplies and food while awaiting word from home whether they would be allowed entry into America or not based upon their political leanings rather then simply fleeing poverty/violence inside Confederate States Of America (CSA). Manyetsyans arrived at this camp early November 1861 including women & children Previously known as Hardcounties resettlement area established eastside near Nashville TN during late 1860s During early days prior Nov 1861 most people living here were abolitionists so we can say few residents removed sooner than possible given current environment Conditions rapidly improved since then although some families remain parked here longterm ever since

Elizabethton, Tennessee is a small town located in the Western Tennessee Valley region of the United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. Elizabethton has been inhabited for over two hundred years and is the oldest community in Cooke County. The first European to visit Elizabethton was Captain John Sevier who visited in 1797. He reported seeing "a beautiful village on an high mountain" and named it after his queen, Elizabeth II of England. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through Cooke County while campaigning against Native Americans and they found several villages had been abandoned by their residents because of fear of retribution from Jackson's forces should they be captured or killed. In 1819, Colonel James Keken arrived with a group of settlers and founded what would become Elizabethton on the east side of the Cumberland River. At that time, Cooke County consisted only of some scattered farming villages spread out along its length. By 1830, there were over fifty-eight families living in Elizabethton. During the early days of its existence,Elizabethton experienced many floods which destroyed much property but also helped to instill confidence in its inhabitants about their ability to cope with water difficulties. In 1849–50 when a severe drought struck Cooke County, many people turned to deer hunting as an alternative source of income and this led to increased prostitution activity among men withinElizabethtowne limits due to lack of other sources of sustenance during these difficult times. Bessemer steel production began operations adjacent to Elizabethton in 1865 and quickly grew into one of America's largest steel manufacturing companies; it remains Englewood Steel Company today! The influx Of immigrants during this time - primarily Germans - also contribute[ed]to economic development around town; many people here took advantageof new opportunities created by industrialization." On July 4th 1903 local resident Maudie Hinton set fire to homes belonging to her fellow citizens near her home on Main Street due to frustrations over high taxes levied by city leaders she felt were taking advantageof her meager resources without contributing anything back unto society herself; this event became known as "the night before Independence". This ignited a series History lesson for me! As I researched more about this particular incident (and others like it throughout history), I realized just how important tax riots are when looking at issues such as government corruption & taxation policies – something that still plays out today all over America!
Elizabethton is an unincorporated community in Lawrence County, Tennessee. It was laid out in 1871, and the post office operated from 1870 to 1903. The community was named for Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
