In Elizabethton, Tennessee, the population is over 140,000 and there are over 2,500 gun stores. It is one of the most heavily armed cities in the United States. The city was founded in 1868 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and it became a consolidated city in 1907. In 1970-1975, there were a total of nineteen shootings within the city limits; however, this has decreased to two since then. There have been three public shootings within Elizabethton itself – both occurring in 1978 and 1984 – but they have all resulted in no injuries or fatalities. In 1869, David Starr Jordan founded Vanderbilt University here after serving as its first president. After World War II ended, many mothers returned toElizabethton to find their children had been drafted into the military or were already out there fighting overseas. Many men also left after the war to return home to start families and businesses; however, few women followed suit because they did not see warfare as an option for them outside of being married off at an early age. Starting around 1970s small businesses started popping up throughout central Tennessee due largely to farming becoming more mechanized and less production-intensive during this time period; Elizabethton sustained some negative effects from this change but eventually bounced back starting around 2000 when people got interested again in local culture and history as well as entrepreneurship opportunities due to limited access to capital outside of rural areas during those years). This amendment helped keep handguns safe from government confiscation. 5) In 1995, ATF (the predecessor agency to today’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System) developed a report on how well firearms are secured against theft and misuse. This report identified several risks associated with gun ownership including lost or stolen guns, unauthorized access to guns, accidental shootings, and suicides). 6 ) In 2016, ATF released another report on how best to secure firearms against theft and misuse. This report recommended using physical security measures such as locks on doors and keeping firearms locked up at all times when not in use. 7 ) Gun thefts continue to rise around the world despite these efforts; however, they have been decreasing over time due to better firearm security technology being developed

Elizabethton is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Elizabethton was founded in 1819 by General James Robertson and named for his wife, Elizabeth. The town was chartered in 1838 and incorporated in 1847. The first post office opened in Elizabethton on October 16, 1838. A cotton gin was built here in 1840 and became a principal industry until the early 19th century when machines replaced workers and the local economy crashed due to monopoly by one company. After Reconstruction it experienced growth as a railroad center with several mills being built here before World War II brought new development including an auto plant and housing tracts for workers after the war. The most famous resident of Elizabethton during its heyday may have been William Faulkner who spent time here from 1922 to 1936 while writing scenes for his novel "The Sound & Fury".
In 1821, Elizabethton was founded as a small village by James K. Polk and his wife Sarah. The town name is derived from the first letter of each word in John Knox's "Commentaries on the New Testament" (published in 1798). The family of David Rhea plantation traders donated land for the new community, which became known as "Polkville." In 1827, it was made a post office with the name of Elizabethton. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Cumberland River and its access to markets in Nashville and Hopkinsville. By 1830, Elizabethton had a population of around 100 people. It became an incorporated town in 1837. Although mostly agricultural until after World War II when it began to industrialize,Elizabethton has been home to many notable residents including actor Neil Patrick Harris and author Rita Mae Brown
