However, some events that may have occurred in the area include: -TheBattle of Chickamauga took place on September 14-16, 1861, and resulted in a significant loss for the Union army. -East Ridge was established in 1871 and became an agricultural community with a population of around 100 people. -In 1932, there was an attack on the town by members of the Ku Klux Klan which resulted in three deaths and many injuries.

East Ridge is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. East Ridge is located on the eastern edge of Williamson County and overlooks the Cumberland River. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in East Ridge was Nicholas Biddle in 1817. He built a log cabin on what is now Second Street. In 1819, John Cramer bought land from Biddle and founded the community of Christmastown around his home Covey's Cabin. On December 6, 1830, East Ridge was chartered as a town under the name of "Cumberland." The first postmaster was Wm Hogg. In 1840, Nathaniel Couch opened a general store and stage line near present-day First Street and I-15 exit 9A. By 1850, there were eight stores in town with a population of 1,500 residents; three blacksmiths; two doctors; one teacher; one grocery store; one moral society (the "First Methodist Episcopal Church"); two churches—one Baptist and one Presbyterian—and seven residences: four log houses on Third Street south of First Avenue (now Fourth Avenue), three frame buildings north of Third Street/east of First Avenue (now Fifth Avenue), two brick buildings east of Third Street/west of First Avenue (now Sixth Avenue), and four stone buildings north-central on Fourth Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets/between First and Second Avenues (now Seventh Avenue). In 1851–1857, more than $1 million worth of crops were grown in East Ridge by farmers using slave labor – tobacco being the most common crop – but due to an economic depression that struck Nashville during this time period, many slaves were freed beginning in 1857. A cotton gin was built at Covey's Cabin by Jno Mosely starting in 1861 to process larger cotton plants into bales for export but it failed because demand for cotton had decreased since slavery ended elsewhere in America years earlier. In 1865 when Union soldiers burned down muchof downtown Chattanooga after capture during the Battle at Chickamauga Creek, partofEastRidge remained unoccupied until 1865 when all southern towns except Corinth surrendered their private Confederate lines following General Sherman's campaign against southern states known as "The Great Redeemer". "East ridge grew rapidly from its early days as an agricultural community to become an important center for trade within Davidson county" according to historian William Gentryman who wrote about East Ridge during World War II when it served as headquarters for American Forces Europe Headquarters before returning home to duty with Allied forces retreating through Germany following Operation Overlord which resulted in Hitler’s surrender on May 7 1945.. After World War II ended some Eastern ridge businesses reopened such as Coulter Hardware Company which reopened after being closed during prohibition era said Gentryman . Today muchof east ridge still retains its traditional architecture characterized by large logs or clapboard houses surrounded by gardens or yards with attached barns or outbuildings

East Ridge is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. It is located on the banks of the White River, about north-west of Chattanooga. The population was 3,853 at the 2010 census. The first European settlement in East Ridge was made by Andrew Jackson in 1819 and it became an American Settlement in 1824 when General James K. Polk appointed East Ridge as one of his winter quarters for troops stationed at Fort Donelson. In 1830, East Ridge was placed under the jurisdiction of Knox County and its courts were transferred to that county from Mercer County. In 1836, East Ridge voters approved a bond issue to fund the construction of a jail and courthouse which were completed in 1840. The jail held prisoners until1855 when it was replaced by the present prison building which opened in 1903. The post office called East Ridge “the little village” because there were only three stores and no other businesses during its early years. However, over time many farms grew up around the village so that today it has more than twenty businesses including two banks and several restaurants and bars which are all part of what is now known as "East ridge Village." Some additional residents include musicians (Doris Day and Vince Young), reporters (Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein), physicians (Samuel Morse), educators (John Dewey), engineers (Frank Lloyd Wright) as well as many local dignitaries such as Governor Jepson Daniel Boone who donated land for a public square near the village limits in 1889 and Mayor John Fisk who served from 1905 until his death in 1919).
