East Ridge became a village on October 14, 1895. In 1907 it became an incorporated town under the name of East Ridge Village. On January 1, 1909, it merged with Hardin County and became part of that county's new district. On November 3, 1912 voters approved a referendum for secession from Knox County and formed a separate government called "East Georgia." That government did not exist until 1913 when it merged with Hardin again to become "East Tennessee". In 1915 residents voted to change their name back to East Ridge after being rejected by Knoxville voters who wanted "Knoxville" written all over their townships signs. As of the 2010 census there were 710 people living in East Ridge Township; 546 living in East Georgia; and 2 citizens living abroad (1 American citizen and 1 international). As of 2000 there were no businesses or churches withinEast ridge township limits but there are several businesses located outside its boundaries including one grocery store which opened up shop inside township limits in 2006

East Ridge is a small town in Robertson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,627 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cumberland Valley community of Chattanooga. The first European to visit East Ridge was James Robertson in 1796. He and his family went there on a trip from Nashville to see the mountain ranges and land that he had been exploring for years. In 1815, General John Custer's party passed through East Ridge while on their way southward towards Clarksville. In 1868, Confederate General A. P. Hill's army passed through East Ridge during its drive towards Clarksville after routing Union troops at battle of Franklin Hills. The site of today's East Ridge was then part of the Battle Ground Township; it later became known as West ridge because it extended westward from where East ridge now stands across the Chickamauga River into Marshall County. In 1920, when Chattanooga was elevated to city status, East Ridge voted to join it and remained an agricultural center until World War II when male residents began working in industry and Chandler moved into homes since most families here still farm with horses and donkeys rather than automobiles or tractors. After the war ended, many people left for better jobs or relocated outside Chattanooga so that more recently arrived African Americans could take advantage of education opportunities available in post-war America while continuing their traditional farming pursuits; this change has continued over time so that today most residents are Caucasian (though some minority groups such as Hispanics and Asians live here). During World War II, during which time many businesses were lost due to bombings by American forces stationed nearby at Fort Donelson (now Knoxville), east ridge grew fruits and vegetables for local soldiers who cooked them up in their barracks kitchens before sharing them with locals living near by or taking them home as a snack before returning to garrison duty downtown; also during this time many homes were built just north of current day intersection OF Hwy 64 & US 71 where I-24 now exists
In 1868, East Ridge was organized as a township in Knox County, Tennessee. In 1875, the township was renamed East Ridge Township and became an independent town on November 1, 1875. On January 1, 1886, East Ridge Township was again renamed to East Ridge and incorporation of the town took place on January 2. The first mayor of the new town was J. W. Hodge. The population of the town grew rapidly due to development in the surrounding area and by 1888 it had reached 3,000 residents. On October 16, 1912, Eastridge Township merged with Knoxville to form a new city which continued to grow until its annexation by Nashville on December 15,1975.
