East Ridge, Tennessee is a small town located in Union County, Tennessee. The population was 527 at the 2000 census. East Ridge is located on the southern border of Union County and lies to the east of the county seat, Chattanooga. The eastern edge of town is bordered by rural farmland and to the west by Hiwassee Creek State Park. The first settlers in what is now East Ridge were farmers who immigrated from Germany in the early 1800s. By 1825, they had built a log cabin on what is today's northeast corner of Main Street and Second Avenue. They named their settlement Eastridge after a hill in German Township near their home. Over time, other families moved into East Ridge and it became a village. In 1876, a post office was established at Eastridge and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1950. In 1911, Eastern Railroad arrived in East Ridge with tracks running south from Chattanooga to Liverpool Junction just north of present-day Main Street. It took some time for locals to come to grips with this new development; however, when services began operations on April 1st 1912 (the same day as Chattanooga), many people quickly got used to using rail transportation for everyday errands instead of walking or horseback riding. At its peak passenger service lasted two days each way between Chattanooga and Liverpool Junction; however, due to technological advancements during World War I (eastern railways were destroyed), service only resumed briefly after hostilities ended before completely disappearing again following World War II. In 1954, when Union County was created within Knox County,[4] much progress had been made since then regarding developing land adjacent to downtown Chicago Heights which would become known as Hiwassee Creek State Park[5]. Rangers developed an area around what is now Main Street that included areas accessed through private property east of Hiwassee Creek Parkway while SR-412E extending into Dayton Road additional access points existed along portions of Dayton Road used by local residents accessing state park lands east of Hiwassee Creek Parkway such as Old Hickory Boulevard including sections currently belonging to bothEast ridge Village LLC[6][7]andHiwassee Creekside LLC[8], later absorbed into one entity known asEast ridge Town LLC.[9][10][11][12] A few years later plans were put forth for redevelopment surrounding First Avenue/SR-412E intersection which would include construction of several buildings housing various types businesses but no luck was achieved as there wasn't enough money available even though numerous offers have been made over the years from developers interested in creating jobs within our community.[13] Finally beginning in late 2016,[14] city officials began working with developers interested in redeveloping First Avenue Area resulting in several properties being sold totaling $285 thousand dollars or more including one parcel valued at $225 thousand dollars that will soon become home to another business park called "Hiwasseekreek" consisting of approximately 150 acres anchored by several high rise buildings housing businesses ranging from restaurants and cafes down to pet stores all interconnected via skylites providing ample opportunities for retail growth should significant investment be made eventually allowing nightly live entertainment performances outside two large arenas hosting professional sports events throughout year

They began hunting deer and game that they needed for their own subsistence, but also collected plants and other natural resources as well as trade goods with neighboring tribes. By 1810, there were 12 Cherokee living on East Ridge; two years later, there were 20. Emmaltee Creek flowed through the village which created great flooding problems during heavy rains although this was corrected by building reservoirs to control water levels. The main road from Knoxville passed through East Ridge before turning south to go east to Chattanooga via Mamie Bridge which crossed Emmaltee Creek at its confluence with Tellico Lake nearpresent day Whiteface Dam on the Tellico River just upstream from Eastridge Village limits today. In 1815 Ephraim Griggs bought land along Tellico Creek from Major General James Wilkinson for £4/acre (approximately $140/km²). This land had been granted by then-Governor John Sevier in 1796 as part of a grant to provide agricultural land around Nashville for Scotch-Irish farmers migrating northward following the American Revolution. Griggs built his gristmill on what is now Bascom Avenue in 1816 and named it Griggs Mill after himself and his father-in-law Andrew Griggus Sr., one of his early investors in the milling industry in eastern Tennessee.. Griggs Mill continued production until 1865 when it closed due to competition from new machines made by others manufacturers.. In 1865 Isaac Reed purchased Griggs Mill site #1 across Tellico River from Isaac Reed's brother Amos Reed & sons Samuel & Ebenezer who had founded First National Bank of Knoxville (FNB) 16 years earlier while also operating Second National Bank of Knoxville which became First Tennessee National bank in 1907-. He renamed it Eastern Mills because he wanted mills located east of Memphis where cotton could be manufactured into yarns or fabric instead of west side where raw cotton was processed into finished products like clothing or tires..
