In 1865, Pte William Tipton founded what would become Gentry Oil Company which became one of the largest oil companies in America with production operations stretching from Texas to Maine. In 1984, Eastern Kentucky University established satellite campuses here including East Ridge Campus Center in Westville and Henderson Hall on Webber Drive which provides open-air learning experiences for students throughout eastern Kentucky as well as eastern Tennessee statewide during off-campus periods such as summers and holidays. In 1990, Eastern Kentucky University relocated its main campus from Radcliff southward to Greenupville where it remains today as part of EKU’s Colleges & Schools system. Today, there are over 2,000 businesses located within a radius of one-half mile of any major retail store or service center in Hardin County alone due largely to an increase in employment outside of farming sectors that has taken place because of technological advancements such as digital mapping software that allows businesses more accurate access to customers’ addresses than ever before making it easier for them to locate potential sales locations without having their customer base cross state lines

East Ridge is a small town in Middle Tennessee located on the border of Hardin and Campbell Counties. The area was first settled by the Cherokee in the mid 1800s. In 1876, East Ridge was founded as a result of the merger of two other small towns, Newton and Franklin. The name originated from Ridge Creek which ran along the east side of Center Hill. In 1907, East Ridge became an incorporated village when it joined Campbell County. It has since grown to include a population of around 1,500 residents. The history of East Ridge can be traced back to 1865 when General Nathan Bedford Forrest led his forces into what is now Hardin County during the Civil War. At that time, East Ridge was part of Robertson County and lay within Confederate territory. After the war ended, Robertson County rejoined Tennessee but Eastridge remained within Hardin County until it merged with Campbell in 1907. Today, East Ridge remains a rural community with a largely agricultural focus. Today, many businesses in East ridge are still run by family members or friends who have been involved in their operation for years past. This is particularly true for churches which continue to play an important role in local life despite having dwindling membership numbers today. There are also several notable schools located within walking distance of East ridge including West Elementary School and South elementary School which both offer excellent education opportunities for local students as well as plenty of extracurricular activities offered by their respective schools such as basketball and soccer teams (both boys and girls).
East Ridge is a village in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The community was founded by James Robertson in 1875 as Robertson's Fork and named for its location on the east ridge of Knob Hill. East Ridge residents voted to rename their community in honor of General Nathan Bedford Forrest on December 5, 1990. In late 2000, East Ridge voters approved a $10 million bond issue to improve public schools and water systems while also creating new jobs. The Village also purchased an additional 20 acres (8 hectares) of land to expand its boundaries. East Ridge has a post office with ZIP code 38233.
