East Ridge is a small town in Datetsu County, Tennessee, about 15 miles west of Chattanooga. The population was 1,098 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The first settler in East Ridge was a man named James Robertson who arrived in 1825. He and his family erected a log cabin on the east side of what is now the intersection of Roanoke Road and Southside Drive. From this location they could see the mountains to the north and watch for game in their hunting season. A post office called East Ridge was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. The community name comes from an early settler's daughter who named her home "Eastridge". In 1840, surveyors started platting out land around present-day East Ridge as part of what would become Datetsu County. By 1845, there were four settlements located within today's town limits: Robertson's Cabin, Greeneville (now known as Westover), Elmira (now known as Whitehaven) and Eastridge. east ridge property continued to be surveyed until about 1880 when most of it became developed into farmland with few houses being built until after World War II when many people moved to Chattanooga due to its growing population and improved economy. This made it possible for people to shoot large animals like deer and hogs from a distance.
In East Ridge, Tennessee, a small community of about 100 people was founded in the early 1800s. The town grew and prospered because of its location on the banks of the Little Tennessee River. Today, East Ridge is a vibrant small town with a rich history that has been impacted by many events over the years. The first settlers in East Ridge were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1803. They built a church and started trading with Native Americans. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson visited East Ridge and ordered all Native Americans living within 10 miles of Chattanooga to move west into Indian Territory for resettlement. This order caused much outrage in East Ridge because it left their local community without food or shelter. Despite this problem, the missionary community continued to thrive until around 1830 when they moved out of state due to religious disagreements with another denomination. The next year, however, they founded an agricultural academy which still thrives today as one of the most successful schools inEast Ridge history. In 1839, during the American Civil War, East Ridge sided with Confederate States of America against Union forces. This decision led to much conflict between abolitionists and Confederate sympathizers who believed that those who had chosen to support the Confederacy were traitorous monsters deserving worse than eviction from their homes and expulsion from society altogether. Eventually, however, east ridge came to realize that there was no difference between Union and Confederate troops - both sides were bad for them economically and socially speaking. Consequently, they decided not to fight anymore and surrendered on April 14th 1865 just after Lincoln's assassination – an event which continues to be remembered in east ridge as one of its biggest tragedies ever.
East Ridge is a census-designated place in Campbell County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census.
