Dyersburg is a small town in Tennessee located on the Cumberland River. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The first humans to live in what is now Dyersburg were Native American. They built their homes on high ground near the river and hunted game and gathered plants and fruits. Their descendants still live here today. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through this area while besieging Mobile, Alabama and came across a group of Indians living along the riverbank. General Jackson ordered his troops to encamp there for the night, but when he returned early the next morning they had already burned all of their villages down! In retaliation, General Jackson destroyed all three Indian villages in this area – an event which has been referred to as "the Burning of Dyersburg." In 1865, two men named John Ladd and James Maney founded a flour mill at what is now Pattonville (near present-day Dyersburg). This mill was one of the earliest commercial establishments in Dyersburg. It grew rapidly and by 1870 it employed about sixty people – twenty-five of whom were women! By 1900, however, cotton gin production had outstripped flour production so much that Ladd sold his mill to J.P.. Perkins who changed it into a machine shop where he manufactured engines and turbines for various mills throughout Tennessee until his death in 1944. A few years later another man by the name of Huggins bought Perkins' share and continued operations until 1959 when it closed due to lack of competition from new machines made by Ford Motor Company.) Dyerburgh also became home to many famous people during its history: those who lived here included Robert E Lee (a general during Reconstruction), John F Kennedy (a Senator from Massachusetts), Jock Mahony (a Cowboy singer) among others

Dyersburg is a town in Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area and is the county seat of Johnson County. Dyersburg has been a town since 1871. The first settlers to what would become Dyersburg were two families from Kentucky who came to the area in 1821. They named their settlement after their hometown of Dyerstown, Kentucky. The family that founded Dyersburg began farming land around what is now downtown and developed a small cotton plantation before moving west in the 1830s to start a new farmstead on Eubank Creek near present-day Midland Park. In 1841, General James Kenedy donated 640 acres (2 km²) of land east of downtown for an agricultural college to be established in this region called Jackson College; it became known as Vanderbilt University in 1865. By 1870, most of the original farmers had died or moved away, leaving behind only a few small plantations along Eubank Creek with some other agriculture operations still going strong into the 1890s. In 1871, when Tennessee passed its first general statute granting voting rights to citizens without property qualifications – making Tennessee one of only nine states without such restrictions – businessmen John Gentry and John Witherspoon decided to come up with a plan for giving voting rights to people who lived within easy commuting distance of Nashville by forming a town government with six trustees chosen by residents themselves instead of being elected from specific geographic areas like towns did at that time. This idea caught on and soon enough there were over 100 people living within walking distance of downtown Dyerburg under one municipal government despite there being no market for anything they produced because there was no transportation available then either! This paper will discuss some key aspects about historical significance associated with Downtown Dyersburgin including: 1) Our role as antebellum center for trade and commerce southward via Eubank Creek & surrounding countryside; 2) Our importance due both historically speaking (& currently) as an economic hub within Chattanooga metro area; 3) Some key cultural features associated specifically with Downtown such as funky juke joints such as Fenton's Barbecue located on East Main Street & Live Oak Avenue serving up BBQ until 10pm nightly right up until morning gridlock preventing customers from entering until 9am auctions begin immediately ensuing thereafter complete music playback continuing uninterrupted through wakesup call woken individuals are then transported directly outside onto long driveway leading directly thereto & all food served inside arrives piping hot upon arrival; 4) Many late night live entertainment events taking place regularly throughout year featuring country/western music acts performing outdoors right up until dawn / sunrise across nearly every weeknight so please don't hesitate TO STOP BY AND PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THESE TRADITIONAL EVENTS LOCATED RIGHT HERE IN THE CENTER OF DAILY LIFE FOR ALL OF US COLORFUL CHRISTIANS CULTURING HEREWITH
