In 1924, Dickson became one of three towns awarded federal recognition as Johnson County when Johnson County was created from parts of five other counties including Lebanon and Blountville. In 1960, Dickson annexed portions of neighboring Chattanooga to become its own municipal government. Today, Dickson remains one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Tennessee with residents from all over America living here together under one roof – something that has made it an attractive place to do business and live while still maintaining strong cultural ties to its various cultures. Dickson, Tennessee is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The community was named for General Dickson and his father-in-law, James W. Dickson. The first settlers in Dickson were two families who came to what is now the town from Lauderdale Township on November 15, 1817. They were Isaac Smith and wife Rebecca (née Weems), and their three children: Johnathan (1819-1892), Sarah (1822-1896), and Anna Maria (1825-1902). One source reports that one of these early settlers may have been Elijah McCoy who arrived in 1820 from Greeneville County in Alabama with his family. Dickson began as a farmstead with just five homes when it was platted on April 6, 1830 by Aiden Cramer and others under the name of "New Canaan." The current courthouse was built in 1889 by JF Dunn and is located on Main Street between 3rd Avenue South and 4th Avenue South. In 1881 John Sibley donated land to build a school which became known as Sibley High School; it replaced an earlier schoolhouse which had been destroyed by fire ca 1876. Additionally, much of this property still stands today including portions of the old post office building dating back to 1907 on Third Avenue South next door to Sibley Middle School; also on Third Avenue South are several businesses originally belonging to the Old Zion Baptist Church which served as local stores until 1954 when they moved out into what is now Interstate 20 across from Walmart. Finally, some older buildings still stand within walking distance of Dickson Elementary School such as an old gas station north of 3rd AveSouth near US 24E off I-20W which operated from 1922 until 1984 when it closed down due to decrepit conditions; also nearby are a few shotguns used during World War II stored away among other items at the former home of Mrs Gertrude Hinton where she lived until her death in 1990 . There has never been any real development or growth at this location since its earliest days other than minor changes in ownership or renaming through various events such as incorporation/incorporation petitions being filed with the town government over time - all without ever resulting in any real tangible impact or change for those living there today! While there have certainly been times when things did move quickly or changed for residents within easy reach (e.g., new schools opening up nearby) most notable moments seem more like long before present day developments happened completely unnoticed... slowly but surely coming together over time like pieces puzzle that all make sense once you start looking
Dickson was founded in 1827 by John Dickson and his brothers. The town was named for John Dickson, a local surveyor, who had helped found the area. It grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s, thanks to its location on the Tennessee River and its access to transportation including steamboats and wagons. By 1852, Dickson had over 1,000 residents. In 1857, tornado damage destroyed much of the town, but it soon rebuilt thanks to donations from locals and support from the government.During World War II, Dickson served as a base for American forces fighting in Europe.
