Dickson, Tennessee is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,572 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Williamson County. The town was named after General David Dickson who fought in the American Revolution and against the British. The first post office in Dickson was established on July 4, 1824. The present courthouse was built in 1876 and is one of only a few original towns remaining in Williamson County. A local paper, "The Gazetteer of Williamson County", published for more than fifty years provided accurate information about local businesses and events as well as genealogical records for many of the town's residents. A number of businesses still operate today within the boundaries of Dickson including a general store (now defunct), an insurance agency, a bakery and restaurant, two gas stations/convenience stores and several other small businesses with addresses scattered throughout the community.
