Dickson, Tennessee is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee. The population was 713 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Dickson is located on the Cumberland River and has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4 km²). The Town of Dickson was organized in 1871 when a group of farmers from nearby Chickamauga Township decided to start their own town. The first post office was established in 1872 and the first store opened in 1873. The name "Dickson" was given to the town by Jethro Dickson, an early settler who came from Scotland and homesteaded near present day Hawkinsville. The only other community in Hardin County until 1870 was Gallatin City which had been founded by Scotchmen about 1800. In 1871, General James Hogg ordered all settlements except for Gallatin City be burned to discourage settlement by English-speaking settlers on what were then Cherokee Nation lands west of Chattanooga. Some settlers did build homes elsewhere but most left after Hogg's order went into effect. The original water supply for Dickson arrived via a well developed by Methodist missionaries named George Stephenson some years before it became available to normal citizens due to appropriation from the federal government through Indian Creek Treaty #2 (1824). A second well soon followed and with it increased access to white water rafting so that pioneer residents could explore what lay upstream along the course of Indian Creek rapids before those same rapids closed off access during high water times months out from time to time leaving villagers stranded during low water conditions; even today very few people know about this history or appreciate its importance because current day transportation methods make it difficult or impossible for anyone except 6 certified rafters who can use an existingpowerboat launch pad on White Butte Lake without assistance) In 1914 there were just over 20 families living in what would become known as "Village No." 2 which extended 4 blocks south along Green Street between Old Hickory Road and Matthews Avenue eastward towards Milliken Creek where cotton fields now lie;northwest corner property line ran parallel To Whiteside Road now McCulloch Road also extending 3 blocks northwesterly past present day Larkspur Lane home lot onto present day Watkins Drive including front lawn across creek bank next door (. . .) still one block long three streets wide grid pattern today ending at intersection of McCulloch and Watkins roads home site;village limits reverted back to Factory School lots within Village boundaries several years later tobacco production increased 300% due beyond present day limits despite heavy forestation making land unsuitable for farming although village plat described it as "an unfenced open space" This description would not be accurate today because current road network makes it possible for any visitor - even if they are not interested in exploring traditional tobacco production –> drive just outside village limits up one street then turn around and drive back down another street within limits without ever going near Village boundary again much like modern golfers playing anywhere within city limitsalthough there used never been fences around factory lots

The brothers first built a cabin on the banks of the Cumberland River, but it was destroyed in a fire. They then moved to what is now downtown Dickson and started a gristmill. In 1827, they built what is now the first courthouse in Jackson County. In 1830, they bought land on which they erected a log cabin called "The Log Cabin". The following year, they married Anna Belle King and moved into their new home. They had five children: James (1830-1911), John (1837-1925), David (1841-1893), Anna Belle (1846-1920), and Milton Hennion (1849-1931).
