Until the late 1800s, Crossville was a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee. The town was founded by James Hartsfield in 1819 and named after his father, Rufus Hartsfield. The first store in Crossville opened in 1825. By 1870, Crossville had a population of just over 100 people. The early years of the 20th century were difficult for Crossville. This was due to two factors: the American Civil War and the depression that followed the stock market crash of 1929. Despite this difficulty, however, Crossville did manage to become one of the most prosperous towns in Williamson County during this time period. In 1933,Crossville became an incorporated municipality. During World War II, Crossville played an important role as a munitions plant. The plant produced shells and bombs for both Allied and Axis forces. After the war ended, Crossville began to decline again. However, it soon resumed its growth thanks to new businesses that started up in the town during the 1990s and 2000s. Nowadays, CrossVILLE is known for its beautiful architecture and rich history

Crossville is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,707 at the 2010 census. Crossville is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Crossville were the Capps and their family of six who arrived on horseback from Virginia in 1814. They would build the first plat for what is now Crossville in 1815 and named it after their father's home state of Kentucky - "Covington". In 1820, General Andrew Jackson passed through Crossville while campaigning against General John Marshall during the Mexican-American War and ordered all stores within three miles of his army encampment to close because he suspected they were being used by Mexican forces as ammunition storage areas. This forced many farmers to abandon their land and move to other towns in Williamson County such as Smyrna and Lebanon. In 1824, William Denny founded Denny's Furniture Store here which became one of Henderson county’s leading businesses for over two decades before moving out of business due to competition from post office closings and an increase in railroad construction. A year later, James Caldwell established Caldwell’s Mercantile Agency here which served as a store until 1865 when it burned down. A Masonic Lodge was organized at this location on July 6, 1861 by Hiram Mifflin & Company men Jno Thompson (master) & Wm Halsey (seeker). The present-day Masonic Hall was built about 1902 on property that once housed Caldwell’s Mercantile Agency. The building still serves as a meeting place for local lodges today. Crossville began its growth process with new development around First Baptist Church located near the corner of Main Street and Elm Creek Boulevard in 1968 when developer Edwin Sledge purchased the church property from former pastor Fenton Boggs for $2 million dollars cash plus future payments totaling $8 million dollars over a period of 20 years or until 2024 if interest rates remained low; Boggs had also donated extensive land adjacent to First Baptist Church including an old cotton gin Cummins & Co operated since 1793 on Lower Elm Creek Road known locally as “the Bucket” which continues to be used today by City government employees parking lot #1 across Main Street from Second Baptist Church; additional development took place along Elm Creek Boulevard with several hundred homes being built between 1969 and 1974 known collectively as “The Hills” across Frome Drive eastward just north of I-75 exit 221B/222A off ramps past Walmart where Interstate 75 meets US 421S concurrent with SR-412; another large development occurred adjacent MLK Jr.'s Elementary School site adjoining I-75 exit 221B/222A off ramp past Walmart between SR 412 eastbound at junction with US 421S concurrent with SR-412 southbound at crossing point over White Oak River; finally much smaller developments took place less than ½ mile away on Ridge Road immediately west side Of I-75 exit 221B/222A off ramp past Walmart between SR 412 eastbound at junction with US 421S concurrent with SR412 southbound at crossing point over White Oak River

Crossville was founded in 1852 by James W. Dixon and his wife, Martha. The town was named after nearby crossroads where the first store was established. Crossville grew rapidly during the early years of its development, with many new businesses being started including a post office, a school, a bank and a riverboat dock. By 1860, Crossville had become an important transportation hub on the Cumberland River due to its location near the confluence of the rivers. The town experienced some growth and decline during the late 19th century as industries closed down or were moved away from Crossville. In the early 21st century, Crossville has regained some of its former prosperity thanks to resurgent economic development and new housing developments.
