Crossville is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. Crossville is part of the Knoxville–Davidson Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crossville is located on State Route 219 and US 41. The first crossroads in what would become Crossville were located near the present day intersection of State Routes 219 and 41. The village of Turney was founded in 1828 by Nicholas Turney and his family as a stop on stagecoach routes between Knoxville and Memphis. In 1834, John Fenton built a tavern on land that he donated to the community for public use. A store was also built soon after and named Fenton's Store after John's father-in-law, James Fenton Sr.. In 1881, George Hirsch started an agricultural supply business from his home on Main Street in Crossville which became one of the most successful businesses in the area until it closed its doors in 1954 due to competition from more competitive grocery stores across East Tennessee at that time. Another important early crossroads in Crossville was located just east of where Interstate 40 now exits the town limits when US 41 crossed into Hardin County from Carter County

Crossville is located in Williamson County, Tennessee, about 25 miles east of Knoxville. The town was founded by Colonel John Sevier and his wife, Rachel, on September 12, 1819. By 1830 the population had reached 1000 residents and by 1840 it had grown to 2000. The community became an important stop on the Nashville- Chattanooga Railway. In 1882 the railroad company decided to move its main line northward through Williamson County so that it would be less dependent upon Southern coalitions for funding. As a result of this change in policy, Crossville lost its importance as a rail junction and declined rapidly during the next several decades. However, due to its location within easy walking distance of many agricultural points and its role as an educational center for the area's farmers and stockbreeders, Crossville has remained a relatively significant community throughout its history. In 1955Crossville was recognized as one of "100 towns That Made America" by then-Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-New York). In 2007Crossville was inducted into the Tennessee Valley Authority's "Tennessee Heritage Register." Today Crossville is home to several businesses including Tractor Supply Co., Oak Ridge National Laboratory/University Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ORNL/UPH), Bible Institute & Church of Christ/First Baptist Church (BIC/FBC)and Pinnacle Coal Company Museum which traces Minerals Industries Incorporated history back over 120 years!
