From there, the Targets Club was formed which later became the County Fairgrounds Shooting Range. In 1911, Crossville had its first gun show and attracted over 100 exhibitors. Gun ranges were established throughout Crossville until they closed in the 1950s when shotguns took over as the most popular type of shooting. At that time, target shooting became less popular due to changes in ammunition availability and new methods of hitting targets such as machineguns which could hit a person from more than 50 feet away with ease. Here are five tips on how to make the most of gun targets: 1. Establish Your Position The first step in achieving good target practice is establishing your position. First, take some time to familiarize yourself with your firearm and the target area. Next, locate the center of the target area so that you can place your shots consistently and accurately. Finally, use common sense when selecting your target: a large animal or human being will usually require more than one shot; small animals or people may only require one or two shots. 2. Use Eye Protection Your eyesight is one of the most important components of hitting targets well; use eye protection if necessary in order to achieve consistent results across all ranges and calibers used in practice sessions. The railroad arrived in Crossville in 1886 and it became an important factor in the town's growth. By 1930, Crossville had become one of the largest cities in Cooke County and its downtown district was home to several large stores and businesses as well as a variety of small businesses. Today, many of Crossville's historical buildings still remain standing including the original Post Office building, Main Street Bank and Trust building and the old Masonic Lodge (now used as a library).
