Crossville is a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. Crossville is located on the Cumberland River and its ZIP code is 82234. The first settler in Crossville was John Coker in 1827. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street. The village began to form with early settlers coming from Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania and other parts of North America. In 1847, post office was established at Crossville and it continued to serve as such until 1907 when it became the county seat of Davidson County. In 1872, two brothers named Edwin Pemberton founded a flour mill in Crossville which quickly became one of the leading businesses in the community. They were also responsible for building numerous homes in Crossville including many that still stand today such as Mrs. Hargrave's Home on Third Street and Mr. Pemberton's Cabin on Elm Street; both are currently occupied by members of their families. Additionally, over 20 churches have been constructed or rebuilt within just a few short decades following Baptist worshiping there from its inception until 1978 when denominational affiliation made it an Evangelical Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod parish (now known as First Presbyterian). During World War II, residents produced munitions plants throughout Davidson County through various means including distilling whiskey into gasoline and diesel fuel for trucks and planes; cross-country construction of roads; blacksmithing;cery production; banana republic warfare production facilities; cotton ginning operations during peak planting years 1944-1945; packinghouses handling men/machinery/ supplies arriving by train at Knox Valley Railroad Station before being forwarded south via truck to various factories scattered throughout Tennessee while also serving as troop staging points along I-16 near Chattanooga where local pilots would fly supply drops onto airstrips adjacent to airfields used by Axis troops preparing for invasion across the mountains into southern England starting on July 12th 1944) making Crossville one of most heavily bombed places during World War II with more than 2 million tons dropped upon it!

Crossville was platted in 1847 by General James Hogg and named for his brother-in-law George Cross. The first settler was John Pritchard, who lived on the east side of the creek that forms present day US Highway 31. In 1863, Alexander Hillis founded a post office here and naming it for himself (Hillis Post Office). By 1865, all but one family had moved away from Crossville due to political instability in Marshall County and lack of water supplies. A new crossroads was needed because US Highway 31 crossed the creek near present day College Avenue and Hawkins Road (now I-24). That year, General Joseph Ewing donated land to build a school here which opened in 1867. By 1870, there were eighteen residents living in Crossville; ten of these were farms and six churches served as homeschooling institutions for future students. In 1875, local businessman Wabash Electric Light Company organized an experimental line of electric light across Marshall County using three miles of overhead wire strung between two trees at what is now milepost 5 on I-24 just north of Crossville proper; this company's system became operational later that year with service to nearby stations including those located along FM 1628 near Hillsboro and FM 925 just south ofpresent day Crossville High School (now Highlands Middle School). At its height during its early years Wabash Electric Light Company employed over fifty workers; however by 1888 its lines had been replaced by more natural gas transmission lines providing lighting throughout much of central Knoxvin
The Crossville community is located in the Nashville metropolitan area, and is historically associated with the cotton industry. The town was founded in 1871 by John A. Brown and James W. White, two of the Zion Baptist Church's first members. In 1886, Crossville became a city after it was annexed by Nashville; its population reached over 50,000 by 1910. The cotton industry declined in the early 21st century, but has since redeveloped as an agricultural center; Crossville has a growing population of about 30,000 people.
