One reason that Crossville grew slowly during these years was that there was no railroad access to this area at that time. Today's businesses located in or around downtown CrossVILLE reflect this slow growth; however, there are several new businesses sprouting up throughout much of downtown including one called "Fruitland" which specializes exclusively in local produce from local farms

The first post office in Crossville was established in 1847 and continued operations until 1865. During its time as a township, Crossville developed an early transportation system with two roads that led into town: one route ran north-south through downtown and the other ran east-west along Market Street. The townships within Knox County were renamed after generals or statesmen who played an important role during Tennessee's Revolutionary War or during Reconstruction following that period: Cumberland (1848), Williamson (1849), Johnson (1851), Rankin (1852), Hardee (1853), Bledsoe (1854) and Floyd (1855). In 1861, Confederate forces attacked Union forces at Fort Donelson near Chattanooga while Union General Ulysses S. Grant was trying to march southward across Georgia towards Sherman’s army based at Atlanta. As a result of this attack, most of eastern Tennessee fell under Confederate control and Knox County became part of Confederate territory. After World War II ended and Knox County reverted back to American control,Crossville experienced significant growth due to new jobs being created in manufacturing and construction throughout much of East Tennessee since then; however recent economic conditions have resulted in some decreases in job opportunities here as well as elsewhere throughout the state due to repeal or amendment of various state laws affecting business interests etc., locally called “the New South” policy onslaught which has hit particularly hard communities such asCrossville especially hard recently given their history & reliance on local government services/funding for many years past
