Collierville is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The Collierville ZIP code is 82011. The area now known as Collierville was first settled by Scots-Irish in the early 1800s. In 1819, Colonel James Hance founded a post office called "Hanceville" in present day Collierville. In 1834, General Donelson built his military camp here and named it for himself and his generalship during the Battle of Pea Ridge (1836). The settlement gradually grew and prospered due to its location on the Cumberland River between Nashville and Memphis. A railroad was built through this area in 1859 which helped to promote growth and commerce within the community. By 1870, Collierville had a school, two churches (one Methodist) and 50 homes. Growth continued until around 1900 when there were only 10 homes left in the community with an estimated population of 100-150 people living on farms along with some hunting and fishing camps scattered throughout what is now collierville. During World War II most residents evacuated ahead of schedule due to air raids but a few continue to live here today including many veterans who have returned home since then such as Retired Columbo Tommy Atkins who resides near Dyersburg Rd & Old Hickory Rd just off I-40 exit 232A One interesting fact about Collierville during WWII was that all water supplies were diverted fromriver towards Manchester so there was no need for wells or reservoirs like we still have today’ In 1951 local businessmen Fred Beasley bought 4500 acres north of collierville from George Cockerill Grants heirs for $1 million dollars This land included parts of what is now Metro City Schools property as well as much future development including Overstone Shopping Center located directly across I-40 from old coll ierville high school

Collierville is a city in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 15,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davidson County and home to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The namesake of Collierville is Confederate general James H. Wilson colliding with a Union battery on March 11, 1864, during the Battle of Corinth Heights. The first European settlers in what would become Collierville were three families from Scotland who came to Williamson County in 1819 and erected a log cabin on the banks of the Cumberland River. They named their new settlement after General James H. Wilson, who had fought with distinction during the Mexican-American War and was then leading an army against Sherman’s march through Georgia and Alabama that summer. When General William Tilton arrived from Kentucky in 1825 he became acquainted with these Scotsmen and developed a business importing goods from Scotland via Nashville while continuing his military career as colonel of Volunteers under General Andrew Jackson. In 1830 Tilton organized the village of Clarksville which grew up around him along Henderson Road (now I-65). By 1840 there were over 100 people living in Clarksville and by 1850 it had increased to 350 residents when Willis Dickson built a gristmill on Henderson Creek that year. Dickson also founded nearby Mockingbird Station about 20 miles upstream on Cumberland River for transportation purposes only; this hamlet would later be known as Belleville because one of its founders purchased land near Belleville, Illinois in 1856 for $5 per acre (the price has since doubled). In 1855 Colonel John Sledd moved his family from Glasgow, Scotland to Williamson County so they could establish an agricultural society called The Mountaineers which aimed to improve methods for raising cotton crops across North America using traditional skills acquired during their time living abroad (see below). After some years Colored Troops were raised here too but initially they served mainly as servants within several white households until1860 when unit numbers increased enough that they began electing officers themselves including captaincies (eager young men enlisting at twenty dollars per month) - something not even offered to Black Soldiers until 1870! A public school was established in 1863 but closed due to financial difficulties within just four years; however private academies soon followed suit offering better educational opportunities than what available at public schools across Tennessee! Incidentally one reason why textile production collapsed throughout much of North America following Reconstruction was because Northern factory owners refused provide access or labor necessary for spinning/weaving imported cotton fabrics back into cloths – something which we still experience today with NAFTA setting off huge waves of automation globally! In 1865 Josephine Halliday married Andrew McKnight whom she’d met while working as housekeeper for her father-in-law Robert Irvine at West Point Military Academy where McKnight had been educated before serving two terms as Superintendent Of Instruction under Ulysses S Grant before being elected Governor Of Tennessee In 1868 becoming one of only two women ever Elected To A Provincial Government In Canada! After statehood other businesses followed such as C&O Railroad which built locomotives & cars here between Chattanooga & Knoxville starting passenger service in 1901& running freight services also afterwards; eventually merging with Gulf Coast Railroad Eventually most all railroads except CSX left Collierville behind as jobs dried up due to lack options outside manufacturing/services industry following technological changes withinsteel fabrication industry following World War II Another major employer here during those days was Allstate Insurance Company whose head office functioned concurrently inside&outsideCollierville until 1981 when company relocated permanently downtown owing both economic reasons (#industrial growth moving out rural areas=high insurance rates), Facility Conditions (& storms causing extensive damage) & remaining legal issues connected thereto? Finally there are still many small businesses active local economy though job market has greatly improved overall thanks especiallyto expansions announced by various universities throughout past decade or so? Today Collierville boasts more than 16 high tech companies HQ’d or international partnerships spans 5 continents(!!)! African American History Month dedicated event every year allows community wide exposure unique perspective seldom afforded elsewhere Some citizens appreciate continued diversity despite current political environment while others feel disadvantaged by recent trends having experienced significant decreases during post 9/11 recession period? In the 1860s, Confederate General Robert E. Lee passed through Collierville on his way to fight in the American Civil War. After the war, many of Collierville's wealthier residents moved away for lack of opportunities in nearby rural areas. However, some remains of Collierville's once-thriving economy can still be seen today including a number of small businesses and a small shopping mall.
