Collierville is a small town in Cooke County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area and is the only incorporated town in that area. In 1871 Collierville was founded by local farmers as a station on the Northern Pacific Railroad. The town name comes from a collier named Cottonwood who mined coal near present-day Collierville. Coal was important to early Collierville because it powered steam locomotives and provided heat for homes and businesses. By 1925, Collierville had become an agricultural community with 3,500 acres (1,100 hectares) of land irrigated by Canals 4 & 5. During World War II, Collierville became one of six towns in Cooke County to work on defense projects such as building anti-aircraft cannons and supplying food for troops stationed in Arkansas and Texas. After the war ended, many factories stopped producing goods in Collierville but some continued until they closed in the late 1990s including Jiffy Lube Inc., which produced oil pumps for yards; Montgomery Ward; Sears Roebuck & Co.; Humble Rubber Company; and Greeting Cards International Srl.. Today much of what once operated withinCollierville has been destroyed or replaced by new development: Walmart Supercenter opened in 2002; Ford Factory Outlet Store opened in 2006; Tyson's Pizza opened its first store outside of Chicago in 2008; Moxie's Grill & Pub built a restaurant inside of Walmart Supercenter in 2009; KFC ; Pompano Beach Resort Hotel open its doors to guests beginning in2010 The history of Collierville starts with cotton farming on large tracts of land gifted to settlers by General James Robertson during Reconstruction following the Civil War. The original citizens were African Americans working alongside white farmers while attending school together called "the good old days." Neighboring Decatur County also contributed several thousand acres (1 ha) to help provide feed for southerncollies used for herding cattle along major rivers beforeRailroads arrived throughout America during this time period bringing jobs opportunities not available locally such as truck driving etcetera A post office was established at collieryvillage on November 15th 1871 after years effort led by John Crayton who served as Postmaster General during Reconstruction coal mining began around 1900 becoming MORE Extensive starting out with about 10 tons/acre (4 kg/ha) until 1910 when production peaked at 100 tons/acre (45 kg/ha). Coal contains Sulphur which made it very dangerous to touch so operators would often wear gloves when coming into contact with coal dust especially if they were going down stairs! With over 2 million people shoveling coal each day it took up quite some space unfortunately making surface water contaminated which caused many diseases like typhoid fever among other things however current technology means this no longer happens today thanks largely to advances made since then including proper ventilation systems! Coal continues being mined here however now mostly using modern methods including open pit mine shafts which allow sunlight into workings making it more environmentally friendly than traditional mining practices
Collierville was founded in 1831 by James C. Collier, a surveyor and landowner. The town is named after the collier company that mined coal in the area. The first post office was established in 1834, and the first store was opened in 1839. In 1865, the town became a village. It merged with Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1900 to form the new city of Memphis.
