The city of Collierville, Tennessee was founded in 1871 by two brothers named John and James Collierville. The brothers had come from a small town in Ireland. They started a grocery store in the town and soon realized that they needed to improve their business if they were going to keep up with the large stores in Nashville. So they set out to find some of the best optical equipment around. One of the first things that the brothers did was start buying telescopes from individuals who would sell them to other astronomers. They also began working on creating their own telescope design, which eventually led to the creation of the American Telescope Company (ATC). It is the county seat of Knox County and the smallest municipality within the Knox County government. The Collierville municipal area has a population of 19,835 as of the 2010 census. The first Europeans to see what is now Collierville were traders from Philadelphia who arrived in 1795 during the French and Indian War and named it after their ship "Le Colli" which had been lost off Cape Hatteras on December 12, 1795. In 1822, General James K. Polk's forces destroyed Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor while he was general-in-chief of the Union army and named collier for one of his units - kolossal Colossus for an earthwork battery used against British warships near Charleston Harbor (now part of downtown). At that time there were few amenities for farmers or workers outside Charlotteville so when Nashville began to grow rapidly in the late 1800s many people moved into what was then rural Knox County to take advantage of new industrial areas such as Nashville & Chattanooga. By 1900 most residents living east of US 20 were either Italians or Germans since agriculture no longer offered economic opportunities west of US 20 In 1910 when Knox County became a consolidatedKnox County with Henderson Township added it lost its separate governance by way of referendum but retained its name ""Collierville"" until 1925 when all local government functions were centralized under one roof with David Ladd becoming Mayor thenceforth When Memphis (then St Louis) annexedKnox County in 1917 it also annexed Henderson Township making Collierville an enclave inside Memphis proper for about fifty years until annexation ended up splitting both cities along racial lines with white residents moving into eastern parts of Memphis while black residents moved into western parts where they would eventually settle again – now forming what is known as MidtownMemphis During World War II Japanese Americans living east sideof I-20A were interned during 1942-1943 because President Franklin D Roosevelt felt they posed a threat to American security which led to open hostility between military and civilian populations across assignations throughout Asia including Japan

Collierville was founded by the merger of two small villages, called Canaan and Crossville. The village of Collierville was founded on the banks of the Cumberland River in 1853. It was named for General Andrew Collier who fought in the American Civil War. The village had a population of about 100 people when it was founded. The town of Crossville, located east ofCollierville, was established in 1859 by James Gentry and others as a commercial center on the newly acquired lands that lay between Lebanon County and Knox County. As crossroads for travelers coming from both East Tennessee and Kentucky, Crossville grew quickly into a important community with its own school, post office, store and other amenities. By 1870, however,Crossville's growth had slowed due to competition from Collierville in terms of economic development. In 1894, Governor John Sevier ordered the construction of a new state capitol building in Nashville which would serve as the seat for Tennessee's government. In order to finance this project, Sevier issued an executive order creating a special fund known as the Vanderbilt Grant which would provide up to $1 million per year to be invested in local businesses and projects that would improve education, create jobs or reduce poverty among Tennesseans. This grant helped spurcollapse industrial production throughout eastern Tennessee during the late 19th century as entrepreneurs turned to agriculture instead of manufacturing because they could earn more money off their products without having to worry about labor costs
