Collierville was founded in 1881 by three brothers, John Denny, Samuel Collier and William Culligan. The first store in Collierville was opened on Main Street by Wm. Ladd and his son-in-law Simeon Burritt. In 1885, the brothers built a sawmill on White Oak Creek to produce lumber for their store and home. In 1907, they erected a Presbyterian church on Main Street which remains in use today as the Collierville Methodist Church. In 1906, the brothers hired Jens Christensen to drive a combine from their sawmill to their grocery store on White Oak Creek where they began selling ice cream and other items cold from the truck. Christensen would continue to serve as one of the town's main providers of goods and services until his death in 1984. In 1920, Revs A C Lloyd and P F Ryder were appointed pastors of First Presbyterian Church in collierville after serving as assistant ministers at Zion Baptist Church in Millingtonville (now Lebanon). When that church closed its doors for lack of members after eighty years due to prohibitionism within their denomination during World War I, Revs Lloyd and Ryder turned to collierville with support from friends for spiritual guidance until it reopened under new leadership just two years later with Rev H J McNaught as pastor After Hurricane Hazel hit Tennessee in October 1971; nearly allColliers businesses closed including RR Donnelley & Sons hardware store; however many local citizens refused to evacuate or leave town because they knew Their homes would be destroyed if they did so; few buildings survived eitherphysical damage or tornado damage but most have been reconstructed/ rehabilitated over time including NTN Museum which features an original antique elevator salvaged from former Donnelley’s); currently open 10am-5pm Monday thru Friday except holidays

Collierville is a town in Marshall County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Collierville was incorporated as a village in 1892 and as a town in 1907. The name "Collierville" comes from the collieries that were located there back then. The first settler in what is now Collierville was John Witherspoon, who arrived on horseback in 1785. He built a cabin on the banks of the Cumberland River and named it Witherspoon Station because he could not find any land to purchase with his money. In 1802, another pioneer, James Caldwell, arrived with his family and began farming near present-day Collierville. This community grew quickly because of its location and easy access to trade routes connecting Nashville with Memphis and Chattanooga. By 1830, both Caldwells had passed away and their communities had merged into one larger one under the name of Knoxville. In 1892, when Knoxville became an independent city known for its shopping centers and fashionable nightlife around downtown (running parallel to Fifth Avenue), residents of Collierville voted to become their own municipality separate from Knoxville by referendum vote. The changeover came about due to problems within Knoxville's Mayoralty Committee over how best to deal with increasing oil production within the city limits which was causing some traffic congestion on Fifth Avenue between downtown Knoxville and surrounding areas such as nearby Decatur Heights/Green Hills/Kirkwood etc.). Although originally against secession because they felt that it would only lead to more division amongst themselves rather than unification they eventually conceded after overwhelmingly voting yes on incorporation into an inner-city city ordinance that reflected many concerns faced by rural folk living outside of major cities like Knoxville who were uncomfortable sharing all the same resources with people who did not pay taxes or benefited from public services such as education or health care infrastructure like water systems or sewers! As annexation proceeded through marriage settlements among various landowners along with petitions signed by citizens imploring annexation by unanimous consent – including women including future congresswoman Margaret Chase Smith (D-TN) – annexation finally occurred on November 2nd 1915 when City Council Resolution AO 20 announced: "The Town ofcollierville has been annexed into the City ofknoxville." With this event Cherokee Nation member Buffalo Bill Cody came visit Collierville for lunch at local restaurant Porter's Place before returning home via train station just past today's old colliery site - providing what would be considered genuine tourism attractions today! Today much of downtown skyline still bears evidence from early 1800s coalmining operations including several large open pits still visible today near 5th Ave S & Main St., Tennyson Rd N & Jerome Rd E etc.. In addition older homes used for coal storage are also still extant around 11th Ave SE & Highland Dr NE etc.. Coal mining stopped abruptly around 1920s but small amounts continue being mined until present day due mainly to lack of new technologies available while natural gas prices have gone up significantly making coal more profitable than ever before! Today much effort goes into researching abandoned mines throughout Appalachians efforts towards renaissance called "coal country" !!
Collierville, Tennessee was founded in 1868 by James H. Collierville and his brother-in-law, John Fenton. The town sprang up around the colliery district which straddles the banks of the Cumberland River. The first store in Collierville was built on West Main Street. The town rapidly grew and soon boasted a population of over 100 people. By 1870, colliery operations had closed in Collierville and most residents were forced to leave for work at nearby mines or plantations. In 1872, the town voted to secede from Davidson County and form its own county under the name of Collierville County. At that time, it had a population of just over 50 people.During the early years of its existence, Collierville experienced some prosperity thanks to its location close to both coalitions of miners and their families who helped contribute financially to its development; however, this brief period of success came to an end when prices for coal began to rise dramatically during the late 1800s and early 1900s. During these years, many small businesses closed or went outof business while larger companies such as ConocoPhillips took advantage of Collierville's natural resources. Over time, poverty has become increasingly prevalent inCollierville as jobs have been lost at local mines or left unavailable due to low coal prices. Consequently, social services have been called upon more times than not by residents seeking improvement within their neighbourhoods
