Collierville is a small town located in Cooke County, Tennessee. The population was 5,521 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Cooke County and home to the Collierville Chamber of Commerce. The first permanent settler in what would become Collierville was James Witherspoon, who arrived in 1792. Witherspoon named his new land for his brother-in-law, Collierville being one of his many Kentucky farmlands granted to him by James Knopp. In 1806, John Sevier reported that he had "a few families living on a place called Collierville". By 1830, there were over 100 residents living in what would become Collierville. In 1835, General Andrew Jackson made it the county seat with the installation of a courthouse and jail as well as other public improvements. In 1885, Coal Creek Dam was completed upstream from present day collierville and began generating power for Collierville citizens and businesses. Today'scollierville Chamber of Commerce began operations in 1896 with just 10 members! The area around collierville has seen some significant growth since its incorporation into Cooke County – most notably through the construction of Interstate 40 which bypassed collierville until 1972 when it was relocated eastward to its current location just south of town limits; cattle pastures have also seen increased development due to growing demand for hay/livestock production within Highway 65 corridor; as well as suburban development farther north nearby Chattanooga along I-40 corridors currently serving as an important feedstock base for both agricultural production and automotive manufacturing within 15 miles radius

In 1907, Collierville became an incorporated city when all but one township within Butte County accepted annexation by Collierville; that township, Pulaski Township, remains unincorporated to this day. The colliery industry declined during World War II because of competition from new mines east of Nashville; however, colliery production resumed after the war thanks to a boom in iron ore mining near Blacksburg and Cookeville. Today,colliery production continues as a vital part of local economy with many jobs being available for people who have experience working in Coal Mining
