In 1819 Sequoyah Cherokee Chief Dallen Barney established a village hereabouts which he named Echota (meaning "where the water flows"). In 1830 John Ritchie erected a sawmill just upstream from present day downtown Collierville on the confluence of White Creek and Chickamauga River - one of several such mills built throughout eastern Tennessee during that period by Scots-Irish immigrants seeking cheap labor for cotton plantations near Mobile Bayou (now Lake Pontchartrain). This mill continues in operation today as part of UTC's Division I men's tennis program aswell as providing employment for many locals through its spinners' union Local 5708C Appalachian Steelworkers Union grievance arbitrator since 1955; also operates an antique store fronting Main Street adjacent to First Baptist Church on what was once Ritchie's farmstead - one of several pioneer buildings still standing in downtown today including original courthouse designed by English architect Robert Stephenson that burned down in 1876 but was rebuilt using slave labor; main street grid plan indicates this structure served as both courthouse/gazette office building and church prior to being moved across White Creek upstream into current UTC campus lots sometime between 1840s-1860s (circa 1850?). The community thrived until the late 19th century when heavy industry began declining throughout the American Midwest due to technological advances such as oil production or new transportation methods like automobiles. This led to a significant loss of jobs for local residents which contributed to social unrest in some areas of America during this time period Additionally, economic conditions also led to a decrease in Social Security benefits for older citizens in Collierville which caused many Residents to emigrate or retire before their benefits ran out In addition, other factors such as budget cuts by state governments have been blamed for contributing to continuing social unrest throughout colliery Valley until very recently
On July 1, 1821, Collierville was organized as a town in Robertson County. The first post office was established at this location on October 15, 1825. On December 12, 1850, the name of the town was changed toCollierville after General Andrew Jackson's home state of Tennessee. In 1861, Union troops burned down the courthouse and most of the town during the Civil War. By 1865, much of Collierville had been destroyed by fire.
