This was probably the first time man ever ventured outside his home country and explored new areas so he must have needed something to help him move about effectively! Collierville, Tennessee is a small town in Hardeman County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 714 at the 2000 census. The town is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Collierville was founded in 1881 by farmers from Kentucky and Indiana who landed on the banks of the Cumberland River. A post office called Collierville was established in 1882, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first white settler in what is now Collierville was Wm. Hinson, who arrived with his family from Kentucky in 1881. Other early settlers included John Hinkle and James Robberson. By 1890, there were eighteen families living in Collierville; by 1910 there were thirty-one families living there. In 1916, when Hardeman County became Knox County, collierville became a part of that county and its name changed to Knoxville (although it remains registered as collivertown online). In 1903, attorney Jno.-Dawson Dillingham built the first home on Main Street in collivertown; he also operated the first store hereabouts. In 1904, dentist Drury McKnight opened his practice hereabouts; he would become one of the most important local figures inCollierville's history. Drury later served as mayor of Knoxville and as an unsuccessful candidate for U S Senate against Republican Jesse Helms Sr.. In 1925–1927, Drury erected the world's second Coca Cola bottling plant hereabouts; it still stands today and serves as a tourist attraction (see below). In 1924–1925 (the same year that Samuel Morse constructed his famous "death head" transmitter antenna atop Mount Washington), Don Beeson connected Hardeman County to Nashville through wire television service; at that time Collierva
In 1868, Collierville was platted as a town by the Alabama Territorial Legislature. The first post office in the community was established in 1870, and it remained in operation until 1907. In 1876, Collierville became the county seat of Hamilton County. It continued to be so until 1914 when Nashville took over that role.
