The Cleveland, Tennessee Armory was founded in 1881 as the first armory in the city. The armory was originally located on Forest Avenue and became one of the largest Armory facilities in the United States. The armory served as a training ground for Union soldiers during the American Civil War and later became an important center for manufacturing firearms. After the end of the Civil War, many weapons manufacturers moved their operations to Cleveland, Tennessee. This led to an increase in production at the armory and helped make it one of America’s leading firearms factories. In 1904, Clevelandarmory overtook Colt’s Manufacturing Company as America’s leading firearms manufacturer. In 1911, Clevelandarmory became part of Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG, which is now known as Austrian Arms Corporation. At this time, Clevelandarmory began producing rifle barrels for various European rifles such as Sturmovik and Mauser rifles. In 1923, Steyr-Daimler-Puch merged with Browning Firearms Corporation to form Browning-Arms Corporation. Browning-Arms Corporation would eventually become a subsidiary of Glock Holding AG. Browning-Arms Corporation continued producing high quality firearms until its acquisition by Glock Holding AG in 2014. During its time at Glock Holdings AG, Browning-Arms Corporation produced some of our most iconic brands such as Glock pistols and XD Submachine Guns.

Cleveland, Tennessee was founded in 1814 by James K. Polk and is the oldest city in the state of Tennessee. Cleveland was named for General David Cleburne, who fought against Native Americans in the Battle of Fallen Timbers. The first store in Cleveland opened in 1814 and the first post office was established in 1816. In 1830, Cleveland became a town and was renamed Davidson County after Ulysses S. Grant's father-in-law, General James Davidson. Cleveland experienced significant growth during the 1800s as it became an important transportation hub for goods between Nashville and other states along the Mississippian River. The city also developed into an important manufacturing center with many companies such as Wabash Coal Company, Macklinney & Co., United States Rubber Company, American Tobacco Company, Cincinnati Road Iron Works and others active here during this time period. In 1907, Cleveland changed its name to Dayton when it annexed neighboring townships including Bethel (1899), Lebanon (1901), Zionsville (1903) and Springdale (1907). Finally in 1925, Dayton annexed neighbouring municipality of Covington which gave its population increase from 25 to 50 thousand residents within two years! Today, Dayton remains one of America's most vibrant cities with a rich history that continues to beamed back through its citizens
In the 1830s, Cleveland was a small community in southwestern Tennessee. The first white people to live there were farmers who grew corn and wheat on their land. In 1835, the community was surveyed and designated as a town by the state of Tennessee. The town gained its name from Cleveland County, which was part of the Ohio Territory at that time. It had a population of about eighty people in 1840. The townsite was located on what is now State Route 71 near present-day Chattanooga. From 1840 to 1845, Cleveland served as seat of government for Clifton County, Tennessee. Hearty debates over slavery and free labor took place in the town during this time; some residents supported slavery while others favored universal suffrage for all citizens. A schoolhouse and churches were built in Cleveland during this period; it also became home to a Cement Company that manufactured lime for area road construction between 1850 and 1860. In 1857, after Price's Rebellion (1850–51), part of eastern Tennessee seceded from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America; Cleveland remained withinClifton County until 1861 when it left for good under orders from Confederate General Robert Ewell Lee. By 1865, only two buildings still remain standing in downtown Cleveland – one dating back to 1849 as an old bank building Now known as "The Post Office" and another dating back to 1887 as "The Ladies Aid Club Building." After the Civil War ended, much of southeastern Tennessee reverted back into Union control but Cleveland continued serving as an independent county until 1907 when it became one unit with Clifton County again
