Clarksville is an unincorporated community in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. It is located on the Cumberland River north of Clarksville proper, and east of Neyland. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. The Clarksville post office was established in 1885 and discontinued operations in 1975. The town was named for General John Fenton Clarke, a Confederate general who fought in the American Civil War. A cotton gin and other early businesses were conducted by slaves. The first store opened in 1881, and soon after a school building and a Methodist church were built. A railroad tracks ran through Clarksville until it was abandoned in the 1880s; however, the local nickname "The Gilded Age" is still used today to describe this period of economic growth. In 1901, two brothers founded Jardine Rubber Company which became one of Tennessee's largest companies. Jardine Rubber Company remains headquartered in Clarksville today with over 100 employees across 10 countries. Clarksville experienced significant growth following World War II as many veterans returned home to find their dream jobs available here at Jardine Rubber Company or other new manufacturing plants that had beenestablished during wartime production shortages caused by the war itself and postwar recession . After years of steady development (with occasional interruptions), the town reached its current level of prosperity during the late 1990s when four mallsopeneduparoundtown: One outside downtown (in what is now known as Old Town) ; one near Interstate 24 ; one just south of Old Hickory Boulevard ; and one off Victory Parkway near Hillsboro Village shopping center . In recent years much emphasis has been placed on Downtown Clarksville – including redevelopment of most of its streetscene - but continued commercial development along I-24 Drive provides good access to all parts of town while preserving much cultural heritage from previous eras

Grant because he had played a significant role in its development during his time as governor of Tennessee. Grant helped to spur economic growth in Clarksville and other southern cities during his two terms as president of America. After leaving office, Grant returned to support local businesses and help promote Tennessean culture throughout his lifetime.
Clarksville was founded in 1821 by James Robertson and is the oldest city in Tennessee. It became a state capital in 1907. The Clarksville Manufacturing Company, which operated a large cotton gin and other businesses, merged with the Nashville Cotton Mills Corporation in 1916. The merger created one of the largest cotton manufacturing companies in the United States. In 1930, Clarksville joined the Federal Reserve System as a regional banking center.
