Clarksville is a small town in the eastern Tennessee Valley region of the United States. It is located in Hawkins County, just south of Knoxville. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. Clarksville was founded in 1814 by Nicholas Clarks and his family as a trading post on the Cumberland River. The first store was built in 1824 and it served as the nucleus of what would become Clarksville. By 1830, Clarksville had a school and a Methodist church. In 1836, General Andrew Jackson established military headquarters there and both he and his wife were born here. The area became known for its production of shoes during the American Civil War because Union soldiers could not afford to buy supplies outside of Nashville. During Reconstruction, Clarksville prospered as a shipping point for goods coming from Tennessee but then declined after Reconstruction ended in 1877. In 1907, news spread about an oil well at nearby Tupelo Hills which led to increased development in Clarksville; by 1915, there were three stores, two restaurants and several businesses catering to miners and their families living near the well. In 1931, when Knox County formed from Hawkins County, Clarksville became one of its five towns within that county limits. After World War II ended with Japan's surrender on September 2nd 1945, many Americans left Clarksville for other parts of Tennessee so much so that only 153 people remained by 1950-51 census figures (-75% since 1940). However industry continued to thrive with new buildings being erected such as an aluminum smelter around 1960-61 followed by retail shops until 2000 when it closed down due to economic conditions Today most residents are retirees or working parents having children attending local schools or commuting into Knoxvill

Clarksville is a small town in Henderson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. Clarksville is the county seat of Henderson County. It was founded in 1814 by General Andrew Jackson and named for him. The first store in Clarksville was built on Second Street by Wm. Boulware and operated from 1815 to 1830. In 1827, John Davenport opened a store on Third Street which became the largest general store in the area until it closed in 1892. The first school was established in Clarksville on July 6, 1814 by order of General Andrew Jackson as part of his campaign to unite Great Britain and America. The school was log-built and occupied by farmers until 1861 when it moved to its present location on Market Street where it has been housed ever since. In 1865, General Sherman's army passed through Clarksville en route to Chattanooga while fighting the American Civil War andspoke with many people who had lived there before their departure or during their stay - some still living today including several members of Congress who were then located in Nashville In 1907, J C Coltrane bought land adjoining downtown Clarksville for $10,000 which he used as his plantation farm known as "Coltrane's Garden". He served as governor of Tennessee twice (1875-1879) during Reconstruction period before returning home to live full time near Memphis until his death aged 95 years old in 1951 During World War II Japanese forces burned down most all but one block of Downtown Clarksville due to Allied air raids; this intact brick building now stands vacant across from Third Avenue Baptist Church . Today the community's economy depends largely upon agriculture with four thousand acres (1,600 hectares) of land leased for various crops such as tobacco, corn etc., along with two dozen businesses catering primarily to agricultural customers
