The shop fulfilled orders from shooters across the state of Tennessee and beyond. During World War I, gun dealers throughout Chattanooga sold wartime weapons such as machine guns and artillery shells to soldiers on military bases. Gun t-shirts were also popular among GI's during that time period. In 1933, The Rifleman’s Shop merged with another local company, JB Hi- Point Firearms Manufacturing Company Inc., which became known as JB Hi- Point Ammunition Co. Between 1933 and 1984, JB Hi- Point Ammunition Co. produced over 1 million handgun t-shirts featuring various firearms including rifles and shotguns. In 1984, JB Hi- Point Ammunition Co.'s parent company ceased operations and all assets were sold to Beecham Arms Corporation who continued production until 2003 when it too ceased operations due to financial difficulties. Afterward Chattanoogan author W H Stewart wrote "A Tale from Two Cities" about life around that time: I went down into town this afternoon (September 25) after spending some quiet days among my relations—the last time before your departure for Murfreesboro yesterday morning; I found everything unchanged save for four or five very small changes which have been made since you left us—nothing has been moved excepting two or three desks here and there….I saw no sign either of industry or population; nothing but open fields with occasional houses scattered here and there among them…no fences anywhere between these dwellings and their immediate neighbors…..We passed through several villages full of people who had gone off to work this morning when we arrived; but soon after we passed by they all ceased talking and resumed their former occupations; only one or two women hereabouts remain….It appeared quite impossible for any body to move about without being observed so near as we are——excepting one man who came out from behind oneOf those large yellow brick houses opposite ours just as we were driving away——and he made no show whatever….Since our return I have counted twenty-six men within ten yardsof me—-ten men each close together——and six more within fifteen yards——not including that little man just mentioned….You will be able to judge how much security there must be if anything like such numbers as these could actually get loose among us!
