The Brownsville Gun Slings History Museum is a museum dedicated to the history of guns and slings in Brownsville, Tennessee. The museum is located at the old armory on Second Street. It was founded in 1984 by retired Colonel Alonzo Bletter and his wife, Betty. It is open from 9am to 4pm every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays. Admission is free for all visitors.
Brownsville is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Brownsville is located on the east bank of the Cumberland River and it is bordered to the north by Chattanooga and to the south by Murfreesboro. The town was founded in 1807 as a post office called "Plymouth." The name change came about because Plymouth had been burned by British forces during the War for Independence. In 1814, Brownsville became a county seat after it was chosen over Chattanooga. The first courthouse in Brownsville was built in 1848. In 1861, Confederate General Robert ELee occupied Brownsville while he fought against Union General Ulysses S. Grant in what is known as Battle of Corinth (also known as Second Battle of Bull Run). Afterullah Jones, an interpreter for Union General Joseph Hooker, helped lead Confederate troops into battle against Grant on July 12th 1865 at Franklin's plantation near present-day Greeneville, Brownesville residents led a successful resistance against Union forces that lasted until early morning September 11th 1865 when they surrendered unconditionally without any shots being fired. In 1905, Brownsville established itself as an agricultural center with cotton production becoming an important factor within its economy; however although cotton production continued to be an important aspect of Brownsville’s economy until recently it has since become more Tourist oriented with businesses catering specifically to visitors who come to explore various aspects of this small town such as their history and architecture which can be found throughout downtown areas and many local bars which still sell traditionalTennessee fare like ham sandwiches or country ham hams etc…

Brownsville is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 971 at the 2010 census. Brownsville is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. Brownsville is named after Amos Brown, an early settler. The first post office in Brownsville was established on February 7, 1836. The name "Brownsville" was applied to the settlement by General James Waggoner in 1841 as part of a survey for his department over which he presided as military governor. In 1861, Confederate forces burned down most of the white settlements in central Knox County and march into town captured all but four residents including Amos Brown who managed to escape with his family and some supplies before surrendering himself to Union troops under General Ulysses S. Grant near present day West Memphis, Arkansas on April 12th 1861. The town was reestablished following the war and continues to grow today with its own school system, hospital, grocery store and other businesses providing services to its citizens. In recent years Brownsville has become an important center for trade connecting south Lebanon County with Clarksdale and north Mississippi counties as well as Interstate 65 which passes through the town limits
The Brownsville, Tennessee area was first settled by the Cherokee in the late 18th century. The area became a part of the Union during the American Civil War, and after the war it continued to be developed as a agricultural center. The area became an important manufacturing center in the early 21st century, and its economy has since diversified.
